Is this designed for external fitting?

Yes it can be used outside, it says down to -20 degrees, I fitted mine into a 110mm pipe just below the gutter.

Hello, The overall diameter of the widest pat of the unit is 120 mm (4,72 inches), fits on a 70 to 110 mm column. This valve allows air to enter the column but prevents it from going out. It can not be said that it eliminates odors, but it prevents them from going out. Not used outdoors. I remain at your disposal for any information. The HydroDiv Team.

Is this a sprung valve suitable for internal use?

Prevented smells from old c.i vent sack in utility room. Check pipe size as I had to trim sealing rings for this to fit but ensured air tight fit by using plumbers sealant around joint

can this be used with a macerator?

I haven't used this with a Macerator toilet but I can't see any reason why you can't . The purpose of the Air Admittance Valve is to allow the waste to empty effectively. It does this by preventing a vacuum forming when you flush the toilet. It acts as a one way valve allowing the air in when flushing the toilet but then closing after closing to prevent the smell of the drains coming out.
