Salty Licorice is definitely an experience. If you are are a bit adventurous and are interested in trying something new, Villosa Sallos Salmiak Pastillen is worth your time. This candy has a very distinct ammonium chloride flavor, and is very popular in Finland apparently, they even have salty licorice ice cream!WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE? This probably isn't the most accurate description, but it's my best try... It's chewy, a bit savory and a bit like a beef bullion cube with a light ammonia taste. But don't let that scare you!Even though this brand is German, I did some researched and this brand of salty licorice (Salmiak Liquorice) is also a popular treat in Finland.I bought this as a gift for my Finnish friend, who was thrilled to receive it. I got her two bags, and she had finished one the very day she got it. It was exactly how she remembered it!Give this a try if you are looking for a taste of home or looking for a novel way experience a bit of culture for under ten bucks.

For aficionados who enjoy that one little burst at a time while reading a book or watching a movie...
Growing up on this acquired taste, I cannot help but be biased. These are among my favorites of salty little gems that light up the taste buds. To be honest, if you have your friends sample one of these, they will either spit it out instanty and ask what the h#%% you just gave them, or they will soon be ordering some more for themselves. I say the same about my other favorites of salty licorice, also known as salmiak licorice and Dutch licorice. You have been warned or welcomed, take your pick.;Update: After reading some of the other reviews, I thought it necessary to point out that the "salty" qualities of these types of licorice are not from what one might call "table salt" (sodium chloride, the granular white stuff you sprinkle on your food at the dinner table). These licorices are not salted with such everyday salt to give them this characteristic, but rather salmiak (ammonium chloride), usually between three to seven percent candy content, which gives the licorice confections the extraordinary, refined (take it or leave it) nasal qualities that they have.

Yummy
Bought for my sister says she loves them. Very strong like the ones from Europe.

Pure licorice punch
I am not sure why some people complain about this not being strong? I've had LOTS of real licorice, and this is very strong. Really delicious too — as long as you like sal ammoniac processed (salty) licorice.Currently candy like the "black cats" and soft "coins" are far less concentrated. One needs to take into consideration the relatively tiny size of each bit. I find myself satiated only with 3-4 pieces in my mouth at a time. It also dissolves relatively quickly, not like hard licorice. However, if you are looking for that pure licorice punch, it's hard to beat this stuff!!!I am taking off a star because the quality on the last bags I received was down. Less REAL LICORICE in each piece, I suspect: the first sign that they might be reducing their quality to meet demands and because Americans buy anything and are generally suckers for such money-making ploys. We'll see. If the quality becomes noticeably reduced, I'll look elsewhere.

Good Salty Licorice
Pretty good salty licorice. Although I like my licorice a little bit saltier, I would actually recommend trying this if you are not sure if you might like salty licorice. If you have never had licorice salted with salmiak salt, it is a different experience of saltiness. The pieces are kind of small, but I like taking handfuls at a time.

Not exactly like the original really salty salmiak licorice from Germany!!!
These are not quite the same as the German little triangle shaped really salty salmiak licorice.First: they are the same shape as the original salmiak licorice that I love from Germany but the triangles are about three times the size.Second: people say these are very salty. I guess they've never had the original salmiak licorice from Germany. There is very little salty taste!Third: as you suck on, or chew, on these somewhat hard, not as hard as the original, they turn into a slimey gooey type of gel type substance. Best way I can say how the texture is in that state is like when you cough up some gooey fleghm when you're really sick. I HATE the texture of these things in that state.Do yourself a favor if you love the original little triangled shaped, really salty, salmiak licorice from Germany and buy the Rheila brand. They are exactly as I remember this type of salmiak licorice that use to come in little tin containers years and years ago. Rhiela brand IS expensive!!! But if you love the original little triangled shaped, really salty, salmiak licorice from Germany then that is the brand you definitely want to buy. It's worth the price, to me, to buy the Rheila brand!!!I will NEVER buy this brand again and I will tell all my friends that love the original triangled shaped, really salty, salmiak licorice from Germany not to buy this brand!!!

Not For The Average Salmiakki Eater
I'm not too experienced with salmiakki, but from the experience that I have to speak of, this is a much saltier variety than any other kind of salmiak candy I've ever eaten. My palette isn't very sensitive to salty tastes, so this kind was very good for filling in for the lackluster experience I got from other forms that just tasted like licorice that briefly came into contact with salt. If you think Fazer is salty enough, steer clear.

Salty (as expected) but not horrible.
Pretty good. More of what I wanted in my licorice but a bit too salty for my taste afterall. I bought it knowing that itd be salty and possibly disgusting but that's precisely why I had to try it. Im adventurous. (Its a) Pitty there isnt a smaller and cheaper option to try it. I might try it again and find that I like it or that it dissolves well in some spirit like gin (if you can make skittles vodka -why not licorice?) It was definitely worth trying. Better than the chappy dutch coins and more flavorful than the panda one.
