Trashy Romance Novel

A fun and quirky read that's appropriate for most readers
I could have continued reading this story forever! Absolutely loved it. Smith's writing style is fun and quirky, and it pulled me in as if I were listening to my best friend tell me the most amazing story they'd just experienced. I must admit the title, Trashy Romance Novel, is a bit misleading, as this novel is quite clean and appropriate for most readers. I chose this book because it takes place in Scotland, and I completely geeked out on many occasions remembering my own experiences visiting the same places the characters did. This story is funny and steamy and a bit mysterious, with a host of characters that are truly lovable and relatable. One of my favorite parts of the story are the excerpts from the novel within the novel, The Queen's Surrogate -- if this is not a book already written by Smith, it needs to be (hint, hint)! I absolutely loved it and want to read the entire story. I also loved the shout out to the Red Hot Chili Pipers, a truly phenomenal band. Smith has instantly become one of my favorite writers, and I'm excited to read more of her work. Some of my favorite lines from the book:"This land has a long memory, and I can almost feel the ghosts of the centuries past watching as I climb out of the car.""...like I've just shed my own skin to reveal Old Man Jenkins from the Scooby Doo cartoons." (LOL)"...with the flicker of embers, the rustling of blankets, and the taste of a lover's kiss lingering on our lips."

So much fun
Such a lovely read. Fun, drama and bravery. A story about hiding and being true to yourself in the end.

A cross between Jacqueline’s Boy Band series and Nicholas Spark’s passionate-kisses-in-the-rain.
If you want to make money, write a trashy romance novel. That is exactly what Delaney Brooks does. This fun, almost whimsical, story, written by Jacqueline E. Smith, takes you on the adventures of Delaney Brooks, who uses an alias and wants her real name to remain hidden, whatever the cost. Not only is Delaney’s story a big hit, but also a production company picks it up for a miniseries to be shot in Scotland. It is a dream-come-true, a break from reality, and romance is in the air from the most unexpected source.Trashy Romance Novel is a cross between Jacqueline’s Boy Band series and Nicholas Spark’s passionate-kisses-in-the-rain. It is light-hearted, soul-searching, and about learning to live life. How does Delaney deal with all this? Find out for yourself and leave Jacqueline a review! If this were a movie, I would rate it PG-13 to slightly R due to nudity-for-sexual-purposes.

Fantastic read with beautiful settings and lovable characters.
So much fun - This book is fast paced and sweet with believable character that you want to meet in real life! The author manages to make Scotland come alive in her words and brings you along for a dream adventure with her Delaney Brooks - a very private person turned bestselling author as her series is turned into a television program. I could not put it down and was not ready for it to end!

Cute!
This is a cute, lovely read. Isn't it every romance writer and reader's dream, to meet actors that will play their favorite book boyfriends? That happens here. Set in beautiful Scotland. I liked that the sidekick BFF was the head-turner and the two women got along great.

Enchantment In Edinburgh
"Nothing was ever good enough. My descriptions paled in comparison to the world I'd so long only been imagining. I tried my best to show my readers fields of gold and purple flowers, trickling streams so clear that even the rocks beneath their waters glistened in the sunlight, mountains that guarded their surrounding forests like watchful deities, powerful and loving. But those words still fell short."So says Lorelei DuBois, the narrator of "Trashy Romance Novel." As the title suggests, Lorelei is a romance novelist, visiting the Scottish Highlands to oversee the production of a television adaptation of her series, "The Surrogate." It's a significant step out of her comfort zone, as Lorelei is actually Delaney Brooks, a fan-fiction writer turned unexpected best-selling author who has never before left the United States, and who is so insecure in her identity that only her best friend knows her real name and her past. While Delaney may doubt her abilities and accomplishments as a writer, Jacqueline Smith's descriptions of northern Scotland are rich and magical, conveying her obvious love of the locations visited in her book. Against this romantic backdrop, Delaney finds herself navigating from dealing with a celebrity crush to slowly falling in love with an actor from the TV series shoot. (Though, perhaps not in the way she'd originally imagined!) The dialogue, particularly that of Delaney's best friend and her... let's say, British Playboy hook-up?... is funny and fast-paced. And, of course, the romance itself is as engrossing and steamy as any good romance novel, but not so much that it becomes "trashy," as the title might imply."Trashy Romance Novel" is a light-hearted, cheekily self-aware book that should appeal to any fans of Smith's "Cemetery Tours" or "Boy Band" series, or anybody who just wants a fun romantic read with a likeable protagonist, a roguish yet respectable love interest, and some "sinfully satisfactory" frolics amidst the ruins of Medieval Scottish castles.

Great Fun with Quality Writing
I loved this latest work from Jacqueline E. Smith and happily read Trashy Romance Novel in one sitting. While the story is lighthearted and fun, the character development is very well done. Ms. Smith draws you in right from the beginning with relatable characters, a dreamy setting and quick-witted dialogue. I was almost disappointed when it ended as I was having quite a great time tagging along on Delaney’s adventures.
