Backlash 2008
This DVD features the full 2008 Backlash event on a single disc. There are two bonus features. One is an interview with Triple H and one is the conclusion and aftermath of a RAW match between Triple H and Randy Orton. It's nothing exciting but the RAW segment was at least interesting.Matt Hardy vs. MVP - This was a very good opening match for MVP's United States Championship. The action went back and forth with exciting wrestling and reversals. The finish was strong and decisive and a good conclusion to their rivalry. Matt Hardy was coming off an injured knee here and I really would have enjoyed that knee playing more of a role in the match, but even without that it was a very good, entertaining and competitive match. It just could have been even better with a strong story around Matt's knee injury.Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero - This was for the ECW Championship. It was a rematch from their Wrestlemania match which lasted about ten seconds. Things got more competitive this time around. The match was ok but it wasn't anything special. Expecting Chavo Guerrero to have a competitive match with someone the size of Kane never really worked for me. He did target Kane's leg to try and cut him down which was the best way to go with it and keep it competitive but even so it didn't quite work. The monster, Kane, being the one that fans are meant to get behind against an opponent who seems like a huge underdog didn't quite work and the match wasn't good enough to make up for that. It wasn't a bad match but it wasn't that good either. The Big Show vs. The Great Khali - This was a match that I can't imagine anyone really wanted to see. It's a shame this is the match they gave Big Show after a pretty spectacular Wrestlemania. It was a pretty dull match, as you'd probably expect. The two giants just clubbed at each other, and there was also the occasional rest hold by Khali. It wasn't very exciting action, thankfully it was a fairly short match too so while it was bad it didn't hurt the overall show too much.Shawn Michaels vs. Batista - This match was following on from Shawn Michaels retiring Ric Flair at Wrestlemania, which Batista had a problem with. Chris Jericho was the special guest referee. It was the opposite of the previous match as they gave us a really good, exciting match. Batista had the clear power advantage but Michael's kept things competitive by fighting smart and attacking Batista's arm. The action kept a good pace and went back and forth with plenty of reversals. I really liked the finish as it was creative and gave us a decisive result for the match while still giving the story-line room to continue. Chris Jericho didn't really play much of a role as the official which made him feel a bit pointless but he wasn't in the way so it didn't hurt the match. It was a really good, back and forth fight.Mickie James, Maria, Ashley, Michelle McCool, Cherry and Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian, Victoria, Natalya and Layla - This was a Twelve-Person tag match and was really just one of those matches to get all the women on the show rather than giving them an actual story. As a match it was fine, it just felt pointless. So many of the people involved didn't really do anything. The action was mostly alright but wasn't anything to get excited about. A singles or regular tag match with more of reason to be on the show would have been better. It was inoffensive but unspectacular. The Undertaker vs. Edge - This was a Wrestlemania rematch and was for The Undertaker's World Heavyweight Championship. It was a very good, competitive match. Unsertaker had the power and size advantage but Edge controlled a good amount of this fight by targeting The Undertaker's back. Edge also had counters for almost all of Undertaker's signature offence which I liked, it showed how much he'd prepared for this match. There was some interference by the Edge-heads but thankfully it didn't really do much to really affect the match. The finish was strong and satisfying and it was an overall excellent match. It wasn't quite as good as their amazing Wrestlemania bout but it came pretty close.Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H vs. JBL - This was the main event of the show. It was a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match for Randy Orton's WWE Championship. It was a very good main event for the most part. When all four men were still involved it was a really entertaining and exciting fight. I enjoyed Orton and JBL taunting one another while they were in submissions when they realised it was elimination rules and they didn't have to break up the submission attempt. The eliminations were good but I felt they came a little bit soon. The match started to slow down once it was down to the final two which was unfortunate. It wasn't bad but it lost some of the excitement that the match had earlier on. Things did pick up again towards the finish with some good near-falls as it built towards a strong and decisive finish. It was an overall very good match but I think the first two eliminations should have come a little later in the action to prevent the match from slowing down the way it did. This was a very enjoyable night of wrestling. The two main events and the Shawn Michaels vs. Batista matches are the main reasons to get this DVD. They all deliver very good matches that are a good continuation from a very good Wrestlemania. The opener is also a very good match. The women's match and the ECW title match don't add much to the show but they're short enough to sit through. The only bad match on the card was the slow Khali vs. Big Show match but thankfully that one is also pretty short so overall it was a very entertaining show.

Backlash 2008Hardy/MVP- **3/4Kane/Chavo- **1/4Show/Khali *1/2Shawn Michaels/Batista- ***Team Beth/Team Mickie- *Undertaker/Edge- ***1/2Triple H/Orton/Cena/JBL- ***Backlash 2008 was alright, not the best but certainly not the worst PPV of 2008. Other may enjoy Fatal 4 Way more than i did, but i didn't enjoy the period of RKO/Hunter much.
