Gritty, compelling film, beautifully acted. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Marvellous Film!!

This was never going to be an easy part to play, as the real Veronica Guerin was a one-off. However, Cate Blanchett nailed it with a terrific sense of who Veronica was, what she believed in and how far she was prepared to go to get her story. The characters of Dublin gangsterland were utterly chilling and the viewer comes away with a sense of a city that is a far tougher, darker place than non-Irish visitors to Temple Bar could ever imagine. It is not easy to watch at times, but if you want to get a convincing sense of the underbelly of modern Ireland, this film is not to be missed.

Cate Blanchett played the part of Veronica Guerin fantastically and I cannot believe all this happened to this amazing woman Veronica Guerin who fought so hard to get justice and was murdered for it. Parts of the DVD were hard to watch especially when she was beaten badly by one of the evil men who were out to get her. They didn't serve a long enough prison term for what they did to her and her family. She was such a brave woman and her son should be so proud of her but its so sad she never got to see him grow up.

Certains personnages ont donné à l'histoire plus qu'un pays parfois peut en donner lui même. Au contraire des politiques tellement trouillards, imbus d'eux mêmes, Kate Blanchett a su capter ce rôle de journaliste indépendante avec simplicité et abnégation. Franchement elle est merveilleuse et grâce au réalisateur, il y a une trace que j'espère indélébile. Plus que l'argent, bien plus (petit message aux footballeurs), existe l'honneur. Il y a longtemps, "Queimada" avec Marlon Brandon racontait l'histoire d'une révolution (pour de la canne à sucre !toute petite production), c'était l'histoire d'une manipulation orchestrée par un pays, l'Angleterre. Le point commun avec Veronica Guerin est le personnage et son implication à une échelle inattendue. Les deux sont en opposition totale sauf sur un point : l'importance de son rôle au sein de l'histoire. L'un était un mercenaire (évidemment avec Marlon Brandon ce ne peut pas être un simple révolutionnaire) et Véronica Guerin une indépendante. Donc ne perdons jamais courage pour changer les choses. et pour ceux qui pensent qu'un film ne peut rien changer, alors on va dire qu'il y participe. Il y aura toujours des traffics et Véronica Guerin est devenue un symbole.

Die Geschichte und das tragische Ende der Veronica Guerin dürften bekannt sein, so wartet der Film mit keinen Überraschungen auf.Hier brilliert ein ausgezeichnetes Darstellerteam. Regie, Drehbuch, Kamera..die Situationen werden atmosphärisch intensiv dargestellt, dass man das Gefühl hat, mitten im Geschehen zu sein.Die Geschichte der hartnäckigen Journalistin Veronica Guerin wurde hier wahrheitsgetreu wiedergegeben und so eine Frau filmisch ins Rampenlicht gerückt, die es verdient.Sie hatte vor allem eins: Zivilcourage! Auch wenn man manche Aktionen von ihr (z.B. als sie zum Haus des Drogenbosses fährt) als naiv bezeichnen mag. Nein, die Frau war mutig.Daneben wartet die DVD noch mit gutem Bonusmaterial auf, so z.B. der originalen Rede von V.Guerin anlässlich einer Preisverleihung. Wenig später wurde sie ermordet. Hat man den Film vorher gesehen, läuft es einem da kalt den Rücken herunter und gewinnt noch mehr Hochachtung vor ihren Verdiensten, auch wenn erst ihr Tod einiges in Irlands Drogengesetzgebung ins Rollen brachte.Tolle Leistung von Cate Blanchett, die sich auch noch für die Rolle irischen Akzent aneignen musste, sie hat ihre Sache sauber gemacht.Auch das Drogen und Gangstermilieu wird authentisch inszeniert.Guter Soundtrack by the way!(Dass auf dem Klappentext versehentlich Colin Farrells herausragende schauspielerische Leistung erwähnt wird, der aber nur kurz erscheint, ist zu verschmerzen. Für C.F. Fans, die sich aber nur wegen IHM die DVD kaufen, sollte man das ändern)Mein Fazit: Sehenswerter und sehr ergreifender Film
