Best natural shampoo I know of.
I've tried Desert Essence coconut shampoo and find that this one feels more natural. This one is also much less expensive if we consider the dollars per ounce calculation. I wanted to avoid harsh chemicals and this shampoo has the least amount of chemicals based on my extensive research. Just look at the main ingredients and I believe them. It smells natural and even feels natural. Once you get so used to natural products you can't go back to synthetic shampoos. Your body starts to become sensitive to synthetics and you can feel the harsh chemicals. This shampoo is perfect. Now I'm a bald guy but I still need shampoo because the scalp has sensitive skin unlike the rest of our body. Normal soaps would leave it too dry and flaky but shampoo does the trick. Fortunately for me I only need a dime size amount! Pros 1. Inexpensive. 2. Gets the job done. 3. Haven't had any quality issues. Cons 1. Wish they had more options. I'm okay with Coconut Ginger but just wish they had more flavors. Whatever works right? So recently I decided I need to write more reviews as a way of giving back to the community. I figure my decisions are usually based on the number of reviews, I might as well do my part. My purchase decisions are based on: 1. How many reviews does it have? More is better, it means lots of people have tried this product. 2. The percentage of 1 or 2 star reviews? Over 10% is a red flag. 3. The average star rating, higher is better. 4. Top sellers in its category, I usually buy the top 10 and weigh in everything else above. 5. Depending on the product and how important it is to me, I'll also look for independent reviews from 3rd party websites who specialize in testing products.

Fair trade
I have no issues with this product. It’s a very mild scent, has no bad stuff in it and is fair trade.

No toxins!
I'll update this after a few uses. This is what I know so far. The product came with plastic shrink wrap, keeping it in tact. My hair was pretty dirty to start, well, had a lot of other product in it. I have fine, thick, kinky, hair. I'm biracial black and white, but I don't have the silky curls. My hair texture is more on the black side, past my shoulders, and pretty dry. I don't bother straightening my hair due to east coast humidity so I use a moisturizing cream, hair grease and depending if I twist it to give it shape, some protein gel, then up it goes. I wash once a week. So now you know what I'm working with. I thoroughly pick my hair with detangler first, wet my hair, used four pumps for the front half of hair and four in the back. I didn't notice any lather, but it being a natural product I didn't really expect any, especially starting with product filled, thick hair. The scent is very, very faint, also to be expected. I then picked my hair while I let the shampoo sit a minute or so, as directed (the sitting part). I rinsed my hair and noticed my hair still felt heavy. Second go, I only used four pumps for my whole head and this time achieved a light lather. The more I gently massaged it in the more pronounced the lather was. After rinsing, I felt that intense squeaky sounding hair that comes with getting super clean. This is where the people who expect that silky feeling hair when wet, from a natural shampoo get discouraged. Not I! I prefer it actually. The test for me is if i can pick my hair with relative ease while the product is in my hair and this shampoo passed the test! After towel drying, the intensity of the squeak sound and texture subsided a little. I put a bit of detangler and coconut cream as I normally do. I will update this review when i use the conditioner that goes with this shampoo. It hasn't arrived yet. I suspect it will help relieve the immediate, squeaky, stiffness. I continued with my normal regimen, starting with a clean head of hair and happy clean scalp. I'm happy to think I won't have to make my own shampoo as I do most of my beauty and hygiene products. I'll add to this after more uses and let my hair air dry without product to see and feel if it is improving the health if my hair. Side note for those less experienced with natural products; I have lived with Hoshimotos and Graves disease intermittently for years. As a result of getting really sick when first diagnosed, I opted to keep my thyroid and make changes to my lifestyle instead, to see if I could help myself get well, which lead to making my own natural moisturizers and using food and herbs to keep me from being symptomatic. When making a change like that you learn that natural products work in time and in tune with what God gave you; these awesome bodies we live in, able to be nourished by the awesome resources of mother nature. If you are giving natural products a try, you must also allow time to see results, which is what I'll do with this.

Dries out hair
I wanted to love this. I tried it and the accompanying conditioner for a month. The shampoo is too thick and sticky. It took me quite a while to figure out that about a dime size amount would lather and clean my (very long) hair. I had to mix it with water first to get the lather going, and then apply it. My hair really felt straw-like right away, but I kept trying and blaming it on other things - like I need to drink more water - but it's just bad shampoo for me. The smell is fine, nothing to write home about. Kinda meh. Sadly, I'm done trying and I'm going to throw out the rest since I can't use it, and I definitely won't be recommending it or passing it on to anyone.

Ingredient list not consistent with Purely Coconut Shampoo
I have used the Purely Coconut with Ginger shampoo for years. I love the short list of ingredients and natural as possible components. The last time I ordered from Amazon, I received a very different version, containing many additional ingredients, of which I’m probably allergic to. I called Amazon and reordered, and again I received the version with a long list of ingredients not contained in shampoo that I originally used. I was very frustrated. I switched to a bar soap, which has been hard on my fine thin hair. However, today at Whole Foods I saw the shampoo, checked out the ingredients. Lo and behold, it’s the original coconut ginger version I’m buying as many of those as I can get. I’m not sure why there is this confusion with the Purely Coconut line. It’s the simple version that people with allergies might be able to use.

It lasts forever. The smell is great. The foam is satisfying. The price is just right. I'll buy it again, and again, and again, and again, and....

Much better shampoo, rather than the ones full of chemical from supermarkets. After 2 weeks we can see the difference, hair are stronger and smoother

It smells artificial, not like coconut. Texture is ok, skin and hair feel soft.

I ordered a shampoo and a conditioner. So first I used the conditioner after my reg shampoo and was unimpressed. Then i got the shampoo and was not expecting a good lather or nice hair. But TOGETHER THEY ARE MAGIC! Great lather, squeeze out, apply conditioner, brush through wet, let dry naturally -its not frizzy! Or use an iron, looks great!! Will buy again :)
