Not fit for my purpose and a complete waste of my money.
I bought this laptop to replace my old Toshiba laptop that has served me well for many years. I mainly use it when I am away from my desk in Director’s meetings, when giving presentations etc. It was time to retire it though because it will not upgrade to Windows 11. Other members of my team successfully use smaller HP laptops so I bought this one. The first problem was that it arrived with a non-UK keyboard – several keys were in the wrong place and did not display what was shown on the keys when pressed. I had to return the laptop to the suppler who replaced the keyboard without any argument after about a week, but why on earth did they send me the wrong item in the first place? It was obvious that I am in the UK. The main problem I have is the battery life. From full charge, it provides power for less than 30 minutes even though I am only using Ms Word to read or make meeting notes or Powerpoint to give a presentation. It then takes hours to re-charge. If I turn the laptop off with about 50% battery available, when I try to switch it on the next morning it will not boot up at all because the battery is fully discharged and I have to plug it into a power source. I contacted the supplier about this and they asked for a battery report, which I sent to them. Their verdict is that there is nothing wrong and the laptop is performing as normal. In my opinion, it is nowhere near ‘normal’. My fellow Directors use similar HP laptops and do not have this problem (although they all purchased new ones rather than reconditioned ones). I think it is totally unacceptable that this laptop cannot be used for more than a few minutes when running on battery power and it is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. I do not agree with the supplier’s statement that this situation is normal and I cannot see on the Amazon Renewed information any way of reporting it to them or to make a claim under what they term as “the A to Z Guarantee”. Prospective buyers should be aware. UPDATE. Just to add some more information that might be useful for anyone thinking of buying from this company, I have run battery diagnostics from HP, the manufacturers of the laptop, which says categorically that the battery is faulty and needs to be replaced (see photograph). Laptop Bargain have repeated their denial of this and claim that the battery lasts 2 hours. That is not the case, it seldom lasts one hour and can become completely depleted if left switched off for 24 hours. Even 2 hours would be useless for a work laptop. It is not fit for purpose and was reported as such before the so-called one year warrantee had expired. Amazon have not provided any assistance, which gives me the opinion that their Amazon Renewed guarantee and their A to Z guarantee are worthless and favour the seller. My only recourse now is Trading Standards. That will likely be a long drawn-out event just to claim the cost of a replacement battery (approximately £100 plus labour - unless I fit it myself). I don't think sellers should get away with such bad service though. I will update this review with the outcome, unless Amazon deletes this review because the seller will not be happy with it.
