I sent mine back, because it was poorly made.

Q: Do i need to have a trailer hitch installed on my car first?

You will need a 2 inch hitch on your car rated to handle the weight of the carrier plus the weight of what you will be carrying

Q: How far off the ground is it?

On my 2004 Toyota it is 12 inches to the ground. I have checked and you can get a receiver that will raise up to 6 inches if you need the additional raise. Paul Jennings
