works almost as well as the real thing as this is essence.

Mostly glucose
This is not naturally sweet mirin, but heavily sweetened rice water. Might be rice wine in it but the ingredients suggest it's just a concoction. However, I mixed it with soy sauce and it made a usable teriyaki, thus three stars becasue it's fit for purpose and it's cheap, but no more than that because it's not very high quality.
