Has had many negative comments and reviews. I find it interesting. It is so pretentious and facetious. I believe people have taken it much too seriously, but it is what the majority are attracted to viewing on television and it happened to be in written form and those that are obsessed with the shows do not read much.

This subject has been covered much better, many times before.
Maybe it was the cover image that drew me in? I didn't go in expecting much depth or any great literary style--and I was completely correct about that. Right off the bat, the narration was just plain annoying. I think it was supposed to create a bourgeois/in-crowd gossiping at the country club vibe? Instead it just sounded dumb. Not a parody of anything. Just stupid. And utterly amateur in technique. Luckily the style changed and each character began to narrate his or her own chapters, or else the book would have been 100% unreadable. As far as subject and content, I expected a fun, fascinating look at the completely different planet inhabited by NYC's most extremely wealthy and exclusive set. There are lots of books about this. Don't waste your time on this one.The characters are built up, drawn out, story crawls towards a completely disappointing climax, then that annoying narration comes back in, and OH, MAYBE IT'LL GET BETTER NOW! Nope. The wrap up is too short and neat. The final event could have been described in some of that painstaking detail from the beginning, but it's like the author wanted to write down the ending before she forgot it. So, the most interesting part of the entire book zips by, tying up all the loose ends like a neat little kids book. The book wasn't unpleasant to read (with the exception if the part written in the weird narration, which WAS painful), the problem was that the book thought it was a lot smarter, original, shocking, and more insightful than it actually was.I WISH I HADN'T CONTRIBUTED A CENT TO THIS AUTHOR'S BANK ACCOUNT (or ego) BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T DESERVE IT!

Sublimely Obscene Summer Read
The novel keeps you reading. The characters have depth, and the book really flows. I.cant wait for Sloan's next book. Now what she really did a phenomenal job of, is getting me to hate the characters. I either have to love them or hate them and this book kept my interest because I found the characters sublimely obscene. I have nothing in common with the characters so instead, I really needed to hate them...and I did. Sloan finds a way to keep you engaged even when you are reading in a universe you don't understand.

"A Novel" - surprisingly, not a joke subtitle
Was I the only one who bought this thinking it would have exclusive color Instagrams not on the website? Because I really enjoyed the Regretsy, Cake Wrecks, and Look At This &%$*ing Hipster books. What can I say, my taste in books is hopelessly lowbrow. Okay, so if I read a wee bit more carefully, or at all, I would have known that Rich Kids of Instagram is a novel. I honestly thought the subtitle "A Novel" was a Monty Python-style joke. Who would string an incoherent bunch of preposterously rich and tasteless Instagrams into a novel, much less one told from the rotating perspective of many characters? It's hard to get to know the character who's narrating when it's a different character the next chapter. And they're so unlikeable and exaggerated. For all I know, that is keenly accurate, but it doesn't change how they're depicted. It's certainly partially my fault for finding out the hard way that the Rich Kids are digusting people. I made it about 30% of the way through before giving up, but I also abhorred Gossip Girl despite repeated (involuntary) exposure, so maybe this will find an audience.

Decent story
The storyline was ok. There were several proofreading issues, which made this seem a bit diy. Phillip was the best character.

Xoxo
I was expecting a book about their real lives, in order to feel their lifestyles, a story behind the picture of the blog not another gossip girl book type with more brand name dropping and price tag.But it reads easily on a beach,
