Closing Circles: 50 Activities for Ending the Day in a Positive Way

I like this book as a great resource for ending the day, which unfortunately gets rushed. I appreciate the short 5 minute ideas. I always feel rushed and just need something quick to end the day on a positive note. Thank you for all the ideas. There's probably way more ideas for younger grades than the upper grades, but that's okay. I sometimes steal an idea from the younger grades.

My classroom had such a toxic vibe - the students were not treating each other well, we had no sense of community, etc. Our school does not provide time for morning meeting or other community-building. This book showed me how I CAN squeeze in a little community-building at the end of each day, and my students have responded so well! Thank you!!

Bus lines, pick ups, walkers with unapproved caretaker trying to get them early--Closing circle has never been possible in any of the 3 classrooms I tried it in. Far too many issues come up at the end of the day for this--and if it is winter and I have dismissal duty I DEFINITELY do not have time for this. So sad but this isnt possible while teaching tot he test and getting all those Common Core standards hit every day.

This is a must have classroom resource. Many of us have great ways to capture our student's attention through morning meetings, but if you are looking for a calm and productive way to end the day you have found it! I love the different ideas for saying goodbye and helping children reflect back over the activities of the day. What a pleasure it is to send calm students out of the classroom and into the care of their parents. I think it has really helped my students be more reflective about what they have done during the day and ready to have a good answer for parents who want to know what they did at school that day.

I purchased this book to use in my first grade classroom next year. I love the way Responsive Classroom provides methods and support for creating a safe, respectful classroom community. I can't wait to begin using closing circles next year!

This little book makes planning Closing Circle so easy! I love that it's easy to navigate, has great ideas for activities, and gives the teacher options to integrate academics, too. It's a lifesaver for those planning a daily Closing Circle!
