Cutting the corners, literally.
They never published my review on Calvin Klein website so I put it here:Ever since the previous generation of CK Black Micro Boxer Brief (NB1930) was discontinued a few years ago, I have been trying to find alternatives without much success. I tried other models from CK based on their customer service recommendation but nothing came close to the same quality. Fortunately though they are really durable and mine are still in a good shape after several years of use and probably hundreds of washes. I managed to find a few more unused pairs from eBay two years ago but since then, they haven't been available anywhere. So, I was excited when I saw that there is now a new CK Black Micro Boxer Brief (NB3635) available. I bought a pair from Amazon for testing. What I noticed is that material had been changed from 84% nylon + 16% elastane to 75% reprocessed nylon + 25% elastane. The second obvious thing was that leg length had been cut by about 1 inch and the thin seam at the bottom of each leg had been removed. Now it looks like someone had cut the old briefs with scissors. See the picture comparing old (bottom) and new (top). The combination of a shorter leg and a missing seam means that legs of these boxer briefs ride up. Even sitting for a short periods of time causes leg part to ride slightly up which never happened with the old NB1930.Now, I understand if there are environmental concerns regarding use of nylon but that isn't an excuse for an inferior product. It seems obvious that bean counters have requested reducing material use since reprocessed nylon is more expensive than regular. That is the only explanation I can find for shorter legs. The same is apparent in reduced nylon content of the fabric. By quick estimation the new version has about 15-20% less nylon for each brief. That is the game they play. This trick may have been working for some people based on generally positive feedback on CK website but I also noticed the same concerns on another review for CK Black Micro Low Rise Trunk.I am not saying these are complete trash but I just don't like when companies push inferior products to customers based on ESG scoring. There is a way to be "sustainable" and still provide quality products. I wouldn't even mind paying a bit more to get longer legs in my boxer briefs. Time will tell if the pair I bought works at all, but I have no plans to buy another as it is. I hope they fix the design.
