Having used IRWIN tools for a long time, I've appreciated their high quality and dependability. The IRWIN Strait-Line Speedline w/ red chalk is no exception. With its semi-permanent adhesion, the red chalk remains in place for an extended period, ensuring long-lasting use. The line holder, which also functions as a plumb bob, can hold a substantial amount of high-quality striking line. It retains enough chalk for three to five distinct chalk line strikes before the line must be wound and re-chalked. The plumb bob features a large refill door and can hold a generous amount of chalk. The steel crank handle and hook further enhance the tool's durability.Conclusion: This would make an excellent gift for anyone involved in construction or hobby crafts. Even if that person already has one, it's always super convenient to have two bobs with different colors of chalk. This tool is available for a fair price, which is a good thing since my experience has been that I end up having them walk away or misplace them. If you do anything construction related you are guaranteed to have one or more of these lying around. They are super handy for squaring up just about anything you can imagine one straight line at a time. The red color of the calk is easy to see and holds well to multiple surfaces. The reel works well and snapping is a breeze. It’s definitely not as durable as a metal unit but this will get the job done no worries.

My initial impression of this IRWIN STRAIT-LINE SPEEDLINE W/RED is that it maintains the excellent build quality that I've come to expect from Irwin. It has a premium "grippy" feel, and looks great too with crisp design lines. However, I was surprised that no instructions were included. I would have expected something to be written on the back or side of the packaging, and looked several times thinking I must have missed it. It's easy and straightforward to pop open the side and add chalk, however, when trying it, I found that only the beginning of the line was coated with chalk, so I added more chalk and shook it this time. That still wasn't enough, so I tried a third time and unraveled the whole thing, added chalk, and then reeled the line back in. This time I added too much chalk, and the reel felt tight as I was winding it. However, besides adding too much chalk the line worked great! The clasp at the end worked well to grab onto lumber without a helper, and I was able to snap perfect chalk lines. I'm impressed with this product, I'm just not sure I set it up efficiently without any instructions.

This is essentially retractable string with red marking chalk for marking straight lines. If that's what you need that's exactly what this is. It works well and does exactly what it advertises.

This is exactly what you expect from a chalk line tool. No frills, easy to fill, easy to retract, makes a nice straight line. The chalk is great, but is permanent - just something to be aware of if you're expecting it to wash off or come off easily. Minor adjustment for that, and this is absolutely perfect.

A slight learning curve to become super proficient, but nothing you can't learn in a short amount of time. The included chalk is semi-permanent so that are some projects I probably wouldn't use this on, but for cutting down plywood for sheeting, it has been great. Has everything that someone doing home projects would need and for a great price!

I have an old-school metal line that I’ve used forever that uses blue chalk and is hard to see, (but works well with porous tile like marble), so when I saw this come up with red chalk I had to get it! I pulled the string out and rolled it back in to see how well it worked and I was impressed, it looked as if it was never pulled out! The side latch that holds the chalk in closes securely and doesn’t leak, so you don’t have to worry about a mess in your toolbox or putting it in a Ziploc bag. This is a true Irwin quality tool!

Hard to beat

Used it for 10 mins and the string just snapped so I won't be buying nothing made by irwin again , looks like a early finish today as I can't carry on 👍
