I wouldn't recommend putting carbonated beverages in a tightly sealed cup like this. The Stanley is less pressurized, perhaps you'd prefer that.

Does this fit in a backpack side pocket?

The bottom portion fits In a car cup holder. Then it gets larger on the top half of it. I would think it would be quite larger for a backpack.

Is the straw always exposed? Is there any way to cover it?
