By upgrading your Grainfather G30 with the Rolled Plates Kit, there is no need for the silicone rings that come in the original packaging. The rolled edges provide a better brewing experience by eliminating the need for a silicone ring on the grain plates, which allows the user to more easily insert the bottom grain plate and the top grain plates into the mash basket. Kit Includes: 2 x Grainfather G30 Rolled Plates Instructions: Attach pipework to one of the G30 rolled plates (bottom plate) and gently lower the plate into the inner basket. Continue brewing as per the G30 instructions. Use the second G30 rolled plate as a top plate to sit on top of the mash as you would with the original plate. Review: Great plates!! No more fighting with rubber rings - Wish I had bought these earlier. Bottom plate is a 5 star top plate is a little heavy with no resistance on sides so it presses / compresses the grains. I stirred the grain bill halfway through the mash and ended with a 74.3% efficiency so we will see. I am going to use the top plate a couple more brews and see how it works out but overall very glad I switched. Review: What a change from having to play with the silicon rings. Just put together and place it in the basket. Works like a charm

The bottom plate is a good upgrade and solves the hassle of keeping the seal in place. The top plate is useless as it is not fitting snug inside the mash tun. It slide all the way to the bottom and cannot be held on top of the mash water during mashing, like it’s supposed to. I am still using my old sealed top plate for that reason. I reached out to the grainfather support service to know if l’m missing something but never got a reply…
