Finally, out of millions this is what I was looking for .
being an art teacher, an artist, and now spreading the wonderful practice of Zen dangle … having practiced years ago before it had a name I can honestly say it was a huge part of what inspired me and gave me the confidence to be an artist. There is truly something magical in the notion that both freedom and structure can exist at the same time, and even furthermore for perfectionism that interferes this method is able to traxh the amazing value in how a mistake can you turn into a masterpiece .. , freeing up inhibitions and perfectionism,is a gift ..anyhow i purchased because the kids at school, we’re having a very hard time being able to come up with their own designs because they didn’t know where to start and quite honestly as I mentioned, since I have my own way of doing things, I haven’t learned the method yet this is the perfect tool to teach you that, and for you to relay it to others simply perfectly eloquently, etc.,..I have been looking for a breakdown similar to this and yet every book even the original zen entangled didn’t have what I needed this however , couldn’t have made me happier to have received.. even better when you are trying to teach it the fact that you can hand out the cards rather than being limited to holding a book is exceptionally helpful . I love love love thank you so much! Breakdown is perfect. it is the first second third and fourth steps of the method with every pattern named exhibiting exactly how to not only do the pattern, but then to apply as well as shave and different types of variations to put those beautiful lightbulbs in these little heads of theirs lol .. They go from being disinterested because they’re afraid to sit quietly and focus focusing like I’ve never seen before. It’s a beautiful thing .by showing the. patterns starting from a line or shape combined with steps on how to get to what blows them away truly provides a very simple way to debunk i cant - and replace with I can.. it will inspire anyone with a pen or a pencil if you prefer ..

Portable, easy to follow
I like Sandy Barthlomew's drawings and ease of understanding. I had checked out her books from the library (which is what I'm doing now with all Zentangle books to see if it is really what I want and has useful information). I loved both her books and find her step by step illustrations easy to follow. I decided to get the cards for their portability, grab a few, tuck 'em in my notebook, and practice at lunch or waiting times.Of the 50 cards, 39 are step-by-step tangle instructions with completed tangles on the back. The cards are numbered on both sides and it comes with a card listing all the tangles. There are single cards for general instructions, shading, auras, shadows and an add for the author's other books. When you group the first 9 cards and flip them over, there is a Zentangle that is split over all 9 cards on the back.As many other reviewers noted, they are printed on regular card stock and having no coating/plasticization on them. I found this to be a bonus, as I have made a few notes to myself on a pattern I found difficult. You can use your Micron pen to write on them (add arrows) if keeping them pristine is not an issue for you. I did not give this 5 stars, because I had to refer back to the book on a couple of patterns to fully understand (those cards I wrote on).My husband and sons are/were huge Magic the Gathering (MTG) players. The kids are now adults living out of the house but we have binders and boxes of MTG scattered throughout the house. I include this information to address the complaints of light weight and uncoated finish. If you want to buy storage sheets (9 cards to a page) or card protectors, MTG products fit these cards perfectly. If you are planning to buy individual sleeves, I highly recommend the official MTG sleeves with the little hologram tag on it. They were thicker, the hologram did not cover anything on the card I needed (see photo). These thicker, individual sleevers were easier to double sleeve into the sheets (they slide right in) and into the indiviual, hard plastic (3 x 4") card holders. We have a many interations of card protectors readily available, but not so many that were clear on both sides, so I had to use some of the cheaper ones. I could really feel the difference. It was next to impossible to double sleeve the cheaper one. The ones I'm tossing in my bag, I'm also using the hard plastic card holder, simply because things spill, get bent out of shape as things go in/out of the bag. If you're more meticulous/careful, the one thicker, regular sleeve should be sufficient. Frankly, if they weren't free and already in my home I would not use the second card holders.Word of caution: The hard plastic card holders make your stack of card 4x bigger (photographed stack of cards on it's side) and bulkier. All these products are available here on Amazon, but do increase the overall cost.Trying to decide between the cards and the book?Book has more detailed, larger instructions, combinations, and interesting exercises to increase your independence with using and mixing tangles. It's thin and an awkward size/shape.Cards are easily portable, don't take up much space in a bag, good instruction/samples. If you're going to be casually jamming them into your bag they will need some sort of protection.

Love the cards!
This idea is brilliant! The cards are Artist Trading Card size (same as baseball cards). They fit perfectly in plastic baseball card holder sheets for really quick reference (as another reviewer has already done). These could be used so many different ways. You could put them in the holders to browse and choose a tangle that will go well with other tangles you have used in your project or just for fun you could randomly pick from the deck and incorporate it into your string.I started my own catalog of different tangles on 4x6 cards. I spend so much time "collecting" different tangles that I don't have as much time to make and complete a piece of art. These will free up a lot of time hunting for the perfect tangle. The art work is crisp and clear and the tangle instructions are easy to follow. The cards are printed on decent quality paper and have square corners. Personally, I would have liked them to have rounded corners but that is just my own preference. The paper is matte and not slippery/shiney like regular playing cards. The box is super sturdy and could be thrown in your purse without fear of damage to the cards. I hope they make more of these. I do intend to pick up the other deck that is also available. I'm so jazzed over this set of cards and the overall concept!
