Haunted (Michael Bennett Book 10)

Awful.
Awful. This series used to be entertaining, but this latest entry is so poorly plotted and written I had to force myself to complete. Portions of the plot make no sense (presumably some of the plot-lines will be picked up in subsequent books), others are simply wildly unbelievable, and overall, the story is uninteresting and the villains cartoonish. But the worst part of all is that the Bennett character has become completely unlikable, doing and saying things that don't seem to mesh with the way Bennett's actions and demeanor have previously been portrayed. Sad to say, yet another Patterson series I will no longer be following. Lately his stand-alone books, like The Black Book, have been much better than his series.

... to really read but this one was way too easy to put down
I agree w/another reader who said that many of Patterson's books keep me keenly interested so I don't start them unless I know I have time to really read but this one was way too easy to put down. So much so that I forgot I started it and didn't return to it for nearly a week. Way too much unnecessary information and detail. There were times when I got lost and couldn't remember the original plot. I'm at nearly 70% of the way thru the book and the ONLY REASON I'll finish it is because I plan to read the next one in the series and don't want to be lost for not having finished this one. I like the style of writing of Michael Ledwidge much more.

Hoping for Another Book in this Series!
I just finished the last book in James Patterson's series that features Detective Michael Bennett. I have enjoyed reading his books so much, especially when Michael's family, his grandfather who is a preist, and Mary Catherine the children's nanny are featured; in fact, I hope that in the next book (I hope that there is a next one) the writers include more of the family. I have read approximately 75 percent of the books James Patterson has written and I enjoy them a lot. I wish that one of the networks would create a TV series using Detective Michael Bennett and the series featuring The Women's Murder Club and even the characters in the Private series of books. All of these series will keep you entertained!

My last Patterson read
I've been a Patterson reader for decades, but that stops now. I read 82% of thisbook and it ended. The remainder was a promo/preview for the next Alex Cross book. It's become like the World Wrestling Entertainment where one show issimply a promo for the rest. Goodbye Patterson !

Where's the beef?
I read this book after reading the horrible book 'The Store' by JP. The Store only went to 80%, but a preview of Haunted was there. It seemed pretty good, so I purchased it. I will admit I was interested all the way through...until the ending. Or to put it better, WHERE WAS THE ENDING! Once again, an 80% book that never finished itself! I didn't go on to read the rest of his 'next best seller'. Because I have had it with James Patterson and his ghost writers for a while! I'm tired of paying 15.00 dollars and getting 3/4 of a book. No, I may be back later. But this is it for a while! Going to look for more HONEST writers.

Very disappointing!
Always look forward to the Detective Bennett series but with James O'Born as the co-author the book turned into a bad novel!

At long last
Yes, the story is riveting, the action superb, and the suspense terrifying, but the masterpiece here is Michael and Mary Catherine’s relationship. She is surely a saint as we’ve seen through all the Michael Bennett books. Yes, Michael has recognized it as well, but he’s always held back. As a result of recent family and work events, Michael finally comes to the realization of what he wants for himself and his family.

Disappointed fan
I have been a fan for years, but have found the novels of late just an exercise in getting a story out to sell books. There are many authors who use a continuing theme approach that might go into the next book. However, as of late it's as if Patterson's' story drops off in mid-thought. The story doesn't end where it would naturally with you wanting to know what the next chapter is, instead it ends with so many unanswered questions only to realize the next installment could be months or years down the road not the next page. To make matters worse the preview of what you hope is the ending of the book you just invested in is not even at the end of the book it's another book and character entirely. The story is plausible and unlike some of the other Michael Bennett novels appears to realistic to a cops life an abilities. However, the fact that it appears the story either goes to long or to short, depending on your perspective. There is a natural ending with sequel material built into this after the arrest of the main bad guys, but instead story continues and leaves more unanswered questions.

Poor
Worst Patterson for a long time. I don't know if it's the new co author but far, far too many short sentences. The book just doesn't flow. I have read every single Patterson book and I'm fairly sure he didn't have as much input in this one as usual. Maybe he's cranking out too many per year now to keep a tight reign on it.

Good storyline, great author, but way too many religious references
I love his books and this character. The story was good as always but way too much happy clappy god stuff in it. Relgion left right and centre, okay if you're really a believer but I dont want that in such a high degree in the books I read.

Ok
Not the best JP has written but ok to pass some idle time. I do feel the that the religious overtones are quite heavy, started noticing that more and more. No objection to religion just don’t particularly like one mans views stridently articulated- it doesn’t really add anything to the story.

Entertaining read!
I was a little sceptical about this latest Michael Bennett adventure due to James Patterson introducing a new co-author.Thankfully, the transition is seamless and nothing is lost with regard to the history and integrity of the characters. A good read!
