Fantastic!
The new ultimate universe is great and Spider-Man comics are probably the best. Art in this comic is beautiful. I do wish this TPB included more comic book issues though.

New take on Spider-man, if he got his powers as a family man.
Beautiful artwork, interesting story. This is what the main titles could have been like if Quesada hadn't One More Day - ed us.

Great to see Peter as a happy husband and father
Alternate universes are rarely as good as the original, but it's so satisfying to see Peter Parker and M.J. happily married and supporting one another as they raise two kids. It's fun to see Peter team up with someone who is usually an enemy, and I can't wait to read more in this corner of the Spider verse.

Not quite the spidey that we want, but close enough
This is a fun and interesting opening arc. I very much get the feeeling that Hickman is going for a bit of a slow burn, with the new ultimate universe will no doubt end up crossing over and having some sort of overarching plot at some stage. I kinda hope they stick with this storyline for long enough and it stands alone enough to be a great series but time will tell.Although this is very much an alternative take on spidey, I can't fathom why marvel can't give us elements of this in the 616 version. Miles Morales should be the young, carefree spider and Peter should be allowed to age but until then, this is the next best thing we will get

Who am I?
I love this book. I stopped collecting the Amazing Spider-man (after Spider-man/Peter Parker being my favourite comic character for years). This is Peter Parker as he should have been. Mature, a family man, being responsible and having a support system.Peter Parker has a family and a job he works hard at, but something is missing. The world is different than it should be. There are no heroes. However, Peter is given a chance to change that. With his life in order and so much to lose, does he want to accept the power or the responsibility? Also, who is the other mystery man causing mayhem? For anyone who criticises the importance of Peter and MJ as husband and wife, they need to read this book. This other thing I like about this book is that Peter is on a learning curve. This is not a 30+ year old Peter who has been fighting super villains since he was 15 years old. He needs to learn not just his powers, what he is fighting for, but how to fight. The nervousness, nieve belief that everyone is a nice person like him but his ability to not give up even when he is beaten up are what have always made Spider-man great. The book finishes with a thumbnail varient covers gallery.

Retelling
I can’t get enough of this series, it pains me that issues are released monthly. I bought this compendium to get caught up on the series and I devoured it, leading to a purchase of the second and a trip to the comic book store to buy the other issues that will be part of release #3 in September. A cracking retelling and a definite page turner.
