Great light/laser combo.
The Streamlight 69410 TLR-8 500 lumen model is a very well designed light/red laser. I'm going to compare it to it's closest competitor, the Olight Baldr Mini 600 lumen light/green laser. Both are about the best small light/laser units available from competing manufacturers.Streamlight: Actuation buttons, located on either side of the unit, to switch from light, to red laser, to light & laser. 500 lumen output with a nice light cone. Has the ability to twist the lens which makes accidentally turning on the light/laser impossible. Uses a screw/spring design to very securely attach to the pistol rail. Uses a CR 123A lithium battery.Olight Baldr Mini 600 light/green laser: Actuated by short/squat "arms" at the back of the unit that reach very slightly into the trigger guard well. 600 lumen output with a nice light cone. Does not have the ability to twist the lens to turn the unit off. Uses a throw arm to very securely attach to the pistol rail. Uses magnetic induction to recharge it's internal battery. Both are very well made light/laser combination units.Illumination: The 100 lumen light disparity between the Streamlight 500 lumen output and the Olight 600 lumen output is really a non-issue. In a side to side comparison, subjectively, one seems indistinguishable from the other. Advantage: That's a draw.Battery: Streamlight uses a CR 123A, widely available in every large grocery store or pharmacy, so you can put up a supply, in your house or car. The Olight uses magnetic induction charging, available wherever you have an electrical source, an adapter and a USB port. In the event your Streamlight battery is depleted, you can immediately exchange the battery. You can't do that with the Olight. Advantage: Streamlight.Operational Controls: The Streamlight uses bilateral flush-fitting buttons. The Olight uses "arms" that reach very slightly into the trigger guard well. With the buttons of the Streamlight, when applied to my CZ 75, I have to break my grip on the pistol slightly to actuate the buttons. With the Olight, I don't have to. Advantage: Olight.Ease of application: The Streamlight uses a spring/screw design to attach to the frame of the pistol. It works well, but is a bit "fiddly". The Olight uses a throw-arm to attach to the frame of the pistol. In practice, both work equally well but the Olight is just simpler, easier and faster to attach. Really only matters if you frequently attach and remove the light/laser. Advantage: Mostly a draw but with a lean to the Olight.Windage/Elevation laser adjustment capability: As expected, W/E adjustments on both are done via an Allen wrench/key. I had to return two (2) Streamlight 69410 TLR-8 models because the Allen receiving end was so out of place I couldn't insert the wrench to make the W/E adjustment. That was a huge Streamlight Quality Control issue for me.Bottom line: Between the Streamlight and Olight (and I really like the Streamlight user-replaceable battery feature, and definitely prefer a red laser over a green laser, for a number of reasons), the Olight Baldr Mini 600 lumen light/ green laser is constructed with greater attention to precision and just functions better. Both are very good... but one is better, at least in my experience.

First a problem, then 0MG!
I've just owned this light a week. I don't know about battery life and durability, but this unit looks durable, and who cares about battery life. Batteries are cheap. Fitment on my Glock is perfect. This light aligns with my trigger guard and snugs up well under the rail, without sticking past the muzzle.I mounted the TLR-8 onto a Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun, using the stock "key" that comes with the light. There are six plastic keys available in the kit. They are not actual keys, but that's what they call them. They are pieces of plastic make the light fit on your rail. There are multiple keys because this light fits multiple guns. The keys act as a pad between the light and your gun's rail.IMPORTANT NOTE: the light comes with the UNIV-1 key already on the light, while there are five other keys in the package. The key that comes mounted to the light is specific to most Glocks. I wish someone had told me this in the directions. They simply say for most Glocks use the key marked "Univ-1" -- I looked and couldn't find that key, which was frustrating. The problem is if you don't know the light, you won't recognize that there is a key already mounted on the top of the light. It's black and the liight is black, and, well, it's confusing. Instead of making things easier, as they intended, the manufacturer made things more difficult by mounting the key onto the light. I first bought this light from Amazon and returned it, claiming it didn't come with the key that I needed -- okay, I'm an idiot! Nevertheless, here's why I love Amazon. Their customer service offered to send me another light without question. They sent me a new light in two days and a shipping label to return the first light. And everything so fast! and easy. I ended up realizing my error. I was able to use the first light, so I sent back the second light without opening it. I'm sorry for the trouble, Amazon, and you're the best. I thank you for having such a cracker jack customer service department. Now then let's get to the light and how it works. It is easy to mount, and you really have to bear down when you turn the main screw that holds your light to the rail. Otherwise, you're going to mar the head of your screw if your screwdriver slips on the anodized black metal. Use the proper flat head screwdriver and one that is newish, if possible. An old, dull screwdriver will slip on the screw head and you may regret seeing a marred screw head. Pro tip to Streamlight: why not use an allen head screw for this main screw? It's almost impossible to tighten the screw enough so that the light doesn't move on the rail. That's probably my pet peeve. If you buy this light, see if you agree. It's the one thing I would change about this light. So once you install the TLR - 8 light and turn it on in the darkness, you're gonna flip. Hello daytime! It's so bright, you will have no worries about seeing. And then there's that gorgeous red dot in the center. It's amazing to me that, once you calibrated the red dot with your gun sights, wherever you see the red dot, that's where the bullet is going. You no longer have to aim down your gun sights, like your grandpa.Red dot adjustment: There are two allen head screws (now this part Streamlight got right) that you are going to use to align the red dot with your gun sights. One screw is for left and right. Another is for up and down. You can do this inside your house during the day. Simply turn this tactical light on, and aim your gun at something across the room. You will see if the red dot aligns with where you're aiming using your gun sights. Chances are it won't be correct. Use the allen wrench provided with in the box. Using the adjusting screws, in one minute, you can adjust the red dot to point exactly in line with your gun sights.I got this light because a bobcat attacked my dog in the back yard. If it happens again, and if it's at night, I now have a way to see everything going on, and I'll probably just fire warning shots, but at least I won't hit my dog.Chances are you will never have the opportunity to use this light in real time during a life or death situation, but at least now you'll be better prepared at night. I give this item five stars because the peace of mind it provides is worth every penny.

Great laser/light combo for a great price
Not a complete five star product but, it does it's job. Easy to install, easy to site in the laser, You just gotta realize the elevation adjustment screw is inset quite a bit and at a 45 degree angle, so it may look like that particular screw is missing. The provided hex wretch worked fine, while adjusting it's not like a scope, there are no 'clicks' ,it just turns. Minute twists can move the laser position a lot. They did it this way so you can adjust it without ever having to point the barrel towards yourself. You can actually do it while holding your pistol as normal in your right hand and adjust with left. It's plenty tough, shot more than 200 rounds and the point of aim did not change on a Glock 10 mm. Light is plenty bright for indoors, but at 500 lumens, it may not be enough for some people outside. 15 hrs battery life just laser and 1.5 hrs light and laser is not too darn bad. Also you don't need to remove the unit to change the battery. So the worry about re-sighting after every battery change is a non-issue.Compact unit, easy to operate, and ambidextrous. If your looking to get a laser sight for your handgun that won't kill your wallet, does what it is intended to and prevalent enough that most holster makers have one on hand, so no need to ship your gun and light to get a custom kydex holster. And will fit the $20 drop leg offered here on amazon perfectly well. It's worth the cash. Other's put there are way more and can't take the same abuse and are not as well thought out. Just wish it used rechargeable batteries. But you can get the cr123 in bulk from surefire or stream here cheap.
