This second book has all the feels of the first.
We loved the first book, and the second book in the series did not disappoint. T. Z. Layton has crafted great characters, ones you really want to spend time with and has mastered writing in a way that captures the thrill and surprises of a football match. He has clearly done his research (Nandos was a beautiful touch). My son (9) and I have cheered, screamed, laughed, and cried throughout the book. Additionally, my son loves the football, training, the fun things that happen to the kids and their camaraderie. As a parent, I like that there are so many great life lessons and un-laboured morals woven in - the highs and lows of our human experience. It's touching, joyous, pacy and football-packed!

Winning books for my football mad son
Just an amazing book to read with my 7 year old son. Great story of young boy that lives and breathes football. It's not only a great story but it's technical which my son understood completely. My son related to the characters, football matches, the football skills, the feelings described before, during and after the matches so much. He cheered with the wins and got frustrated with the losses, super engaging book. He even said that there should be a film of the book...not a bad idea?

Great book detailing the game of football.
Me and my 8 yo are loving these stories. They are fantastic feel good stories. Really detailed about football moves, relates to players of the year. You can't put it down. Leaves you in suspense each chapter.

Great book- highly recommend!
I was unsure whether my 9 year old son would enjoy this book as there wasn't many pictures in the story and there is was alot of text. He is usually a fan of diary of the wimpy kid because of the illustrations within the book but my son was totally gripped by this book and quickly asked for me to buy the next in the series. He loved the theme of the story (he is an avid football fan) and found the wording easy to understand and the story was entertaining and easy to follow. I feel the price was a little on the expensive side but I happily bought all 3 books in the series. I would definitely recommend. I will hold on to this series for his younger brother.Give it a try for your little football fan.

Great Series for keen Footballers
My 11 year old footballing daughter loves this series and how the author describes excitingly how the matches are being played out - just a shame the books are so hard to get other than via Amazon. She's read them all and keen for the next one to be released! Note the author is American so children might not always understand some of the references.

What a read!!!!!!!
This book, along with the entire series (so far), is such an excellent read. We are currently racing back through them for the second time. It’s so well written- funny, clever, enthralling and full of emotion. My son has to take over the reading every time mum has a tear!
