Wonderfully smooth writing experience and lovely retro pen - highly recommended!
I'm really pleased with my Conklin All American pen in Raven Black with a medium nib. Reading these comments and forums on fountain pens, it sounds like these can be a bit hit and miss, but I got a good one! It writes beautifully - really smooth, nice line. I washed it when I received it and then filled the converter with Waterman Serenity Blue ink, an ink known to be great in most pens. It worked first time, and while I have only had it 24 hours, I've tried it a few times and had no hard starts or skipping so far. I love the design, it's really retro. It's a large thick pen, but not too heavy, I am not posting the top and without it, it feels very comfortable to write with. I have one more expensive pen, and a dozen cheaper fountain pens, and this is my favorite writer out of all of them! So highly recommended, but if you get a scratchy nib return for a replacement, because this pen shows they can be great! Will try and remember to update my review if I can when I have had the pen for a couple of months - happy writing!

Instant classic!
This was far and away the best price I could find for a pen that should be in the collection of anyone who likes a girthier fountain pen! It looks great and has a juicy feed and smooth nib!

I'm in love ...
Ok. This pen is beautiful. It's a big, beautiful, smooth-writing chonky boy! Lots of images attached to this review for you to peruse. My hands are average to small for a man and it's comfortable for me - though maybe a bit much when posted. It comes with a converter and two refills. I will say that I'm worried about the threads at the end of the converter, which are plastic. All my other pens at this point are push-fit with the converter, so I'm especially worried about them since I might accidentally try to ram in the converter instead of screwing it in. I suppose that's a relatively cheap piece to replace though. They clearly know this is a potential issue to as there was a card lying on the pen when I opened the box (see pics, that was like "HEY, this pen has a THREADED converter!" Haha. And guess who didn't read that ... this guy. I'm such a jerk. Anyway, great pen. I think I'm in love.

A Heritage Writing Experience: Conklin Lapis Blue with Flex Nib
I’m thrilled with my Conklin Lapis Blue Fountain Pen featuring the Flex Nib. The ink flow is smooth and consistent, though it’s important to ensure all air is expelled from the feed—otherwise, it can slightly slow the flow. The grip is exceptional. Thanks to its generous barrel size, the pen offers more surface area for your fingers, which means the pressure you apply is distributed evenly. This ergonomic design significantly reduces writing fatigue during long sessions. Beyond its performance, this pen design carries historical significance. The All American series was originally introduced during the Great Depression and quickly became a favorite among writers. Owning this pen feels like holding a piece of that legacy—a true blend of functionality and heritage. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, it’s an outstanding value.

This is a great pen at a great price
I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a large pen but very comfortable to write with. The nib is broader than I usually use but the line variation is phenomenal and the price is hard to beat. It's a wet writer, but sometimes starts a little hard. I wound up having the nib tuned, the tines were slightly misaligned, and now the problem is solved. The sample is from before I did that.

Nice pen, but the stub nib is not for me
2.5 I am clearly not a fan of the sub nib. Others’ examples look smooth and great, but I am getting very choppy and pooled ink when writing. It scratches and misses sections of letters and the parts that do write are so thick that you cannot really go back and trace or you get a big messy blob on your page. But the blobs happen anyway because I have to press so hard to get anything out. It is a chunkier pen overall but the pen grip itself feels nice and weighty. I did notice if you write with the pen cap on the end of the pen, it is not super secure and could fly off if you’re not careful. Other reviews mentioned little tricks to alter the nib for best results, but as a new fountain pen user I am just not interested in taking this apart to get it to work well right of the box; not at this price point. I will try ordering again in Fine or Extra Fine nib and hopefully that will work better for me. Otherwise, the price is just not worth it and for ~$50 more I will just upgrade to an Esterbrook.

EXCELLENT!
This is a pen Phillip Marlow might have carried. It's got that 1930s/40s look and it's a smooth writing instrument. I love it!

This pen has far exceeded my expectations! New top fav.
I have not owned a Conklin prior to this, and I am just amazed by the beautiful color, size, weight, craftsmanship, and amazing control of the nib (I did change out the nib for a Conklin Rose Gold Omniflex). The pen is rather large, so for someone who has smaller hands, be mindful if you do not like a bigger pen. Came beautifully packaged in a nice (faux) leather box with 1 blue and 1 black ink cartridge, and an ink converter. This will be a great addition to my fountain pen collection. If you are new(er) to fountain pens this would be a great taste of a higher end quality fountain pen without the high-end price tag. Well done Conklin.
