Fantastic bit of kit
This is a fantastic bit of kit. Essentially it is a USB C expansion hub made to match an Apple Mac Studio computer. It is perfectly colour matched and the dimensions means that your MacStudio sits perfectly on top. It has a usb c plug which connects to a usb c socket at the back of your MacStudio and provides front expansion sockets for USB A and C as well as SD card and micro SD card slots. The real trick up its sleeve is the M.2 drive bay in the base which has allowed me to easily add a 4TB NVME drive that has massively expanded the internal storage at a fraction of the cost. I get about 900mbs write speeds which is great for photo and video editing up to 4k30.Overall this looks the part is well made and works perfectly and I can recommend it completely.

Excellent product
A super little gadget that fits under my new macmini seamlessly. Direct connection via usb c port allows me to add an ssd card and use this as my Time Machine back up destination rather than paying for cloud storage. Having the additional ports on the front makes uploading my photographs a simple task without having to add additional dongles. Can only think that Apple missed a trick here and should have been onto this idea themselves long ago.

Two tips for installation.
I bought the WD Blue SA510 2TB M.2 SATA SSD to put in this hub - apparently they are frequently purchased together and the drive is of the required type. The drive would not go in the slot in the way shown on the instructions. The only way to fit it was ‘upsides down’ (I.e. label downwards). Secondly, the drive was identified by the Mac but was considered unusable. No clue from the hub instructions how to deal with that. Fortunately, a clever person on YouTube has explained. I had to take the option to erase the disk first, giving it a name in the process. Only then did the Mac connect with it. The fact that the drive is upsides down doesn’t seem to matter. The drive is working. Too early to comment on performance but the hub looks very neat.

Well made and easy to install.
This is a very nicely presented hub for the mac mini. Easy to install and perfectly matches the form and finish of the mac mini. Most useful is the ability to install an extra sata ssd. Equally, the extra ports mounted on the front makes all the difference to the mac mini. However, there may be an issue with the WiFi connectivity of the mac mini as the hub may be shielding the WiFi antenna. Having said that, I haven't had any problems today, but yesterday I did have a number of connectivity issues. I will be monitoring this and will report back with my findings in due course.

Dreadful. Cut wifi speed by 70%. Satechi appear to have not done proper product testing.
I bought one of these for my mac mini in February 2024 and it worked pretty well. So I got this item for my brother’s mac mini.It cut his wifi speed by 70%. I ran multiple tests to make sure the hub was causing the problem. There is no doubt at all that it was.I noted that this hub was slightly different to my hub - it took a different SSD, for example. So whatever other changes Satechi made were - it seems to me - not put through rigorous product testing.I searched online and noted that others have had similar problems. One piece of advice was to wrap foil round the connection cable. That had no effect. I returned the unit to Satechi.Furthermore, my Satechi hub has since stopped working.I suggest this is not a very reliable company and that it seems to have quite low quality standards.

The perfect accessory for the Mac Studio
This is a superb addition to anyone who buys a Mac Studio. Fits perfectly underneath and gives more front ports for easy access. Of real benefit is the the ability to install an SSD drive (purchased separately) which works a treat. This is a very cheap option to extend the hard drive storage inside your Mac Studio without breaking the bank. Plus it will be upgradable too! But

Versatile addition to a Mac Mini
Took advantage of a Black Friday deal price and fitted a 2TB FIKWOT M.2 2280 SATA ssd with it. I'm using that for Time Machine backup, which is certainly swifter than the previous external USB HDD.Very useful expansion of the Mac Mini M1 ports (although the USBC isn't high power). Excellent match to the Mini's aluminium finish. Just a shame that the much faster PCI based NVMe SSDs aren't supported. These are many times faster and now available cheaper than SATA SSDs, which are becoming harder to find. Having said that, for something like a backup, SATA is just fine.

Ideal for expanding a Mac mini
I just upgraded to a Mac mini M2Pro - and have lots of USB connected devices - including drives and USB licence dongles. I ordered this unit because the Mac would simply sit on top, and one connection would give me extra USB, but also SD card slots on the front. When it arrived, I discovered an SSD slot - something I had not noticed the spec included, so bought the appropriate SSD - a 1Tb one in my case. Installation was really simple - open the flap, and inside is a screwdriver and small screw. Pop in the SSD, secure with the screw and pop the flap back. The Mac recognises the external drive and that was so simple. I now have the extra memory, and lots of connections. The unit has a USB/thunderbolt style connector and that then leaves me the rest of the Mac's own connectors, plus the extra ones on the device. It is the same colour and style so I'm really impressed with it. No downsides I can find at all - it does exactly what you expect it to do - seamlessly!
