Space Cowboys [2000] [DVD]

I missed this film when it was released and watched it for the first time on Blu-Ray last night. I was very pleasantly surprised! This is a very enjoyable 'feel good' movie. It actually has quite a good story line, it is well acted and at times, to my surprise, it had some quite exciting space sequences which could teach other space movie directors a thing or two!It is a very respectable conversion to high definition and the difference in quality is easily seen when viewing the extras which are only in standard definition. Some of the extras include clips from the SD movie and in comparison to the Blu-ray the colours lack vibrancy and the picture, on a projection screen, looks decidedly fuzzy. A very decent Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is used which is quite impressive when the occasion demands. There is also a very good picture in picture menu which provides ease of navigation throughout the film.Clint Eastwood has directed a large number of excellent films and this is no exception. I would thoroughly recommend this film and especially if you are thinking of upgrading to the Blu-ray. I don't think you will be disappointed. All credit to the technical engineers. Incidentally, the sequences in space are very effective and for my money it is an infinitely better space movie than Sunshine or some of the other 'more serious' space films.

This is a great film, it's good the see the old guys at again. You can't help but be drawn into the film from the start.The story is good with a few twists and turns but not too many that leaves you struggling with the plot, the special effects are actually very good and believable.The humour is brilliant the guys pull it off so well, I wish these four could have made more films together.Who ever wrote this created a gem of a film.

No illusions, BUT when the cast is built by giants even if wrinkly ones you know the result will be worth the popcorn.SPACE COWBOYS reprises every cliched sci-fi disaster scenario, pokes a very long finger at itself and has a rich laugh every step of the way. It is a deliberate diversion never compromised by unrealistic dillusions of trying to change the world at 72, and just reminds that unless you're dead you are always relevant and capable.Lee Jones is irracible (but you knew he would be) Sutherland is cheeky, very cheeky (but you knew he would be), Eastwood is sage (but you knew he would be) and Garner is....well... the other bloke (but you....etc. etc.) The Cowboys don't waste time with character development and instead leave simple notes and flashback to flesh the traits you'd readily associate with their actors. Most movies fall on their face at this point but you cannot help but respect the quality of the male leads.Story is loose and simple, NASA is in trouble and for some reason the only blokes who CAN help are a bunch of forgotten retirees with a point to prove. Lots of familiar faces gently decorate and try not to get in the way. William Devanne being the obstructive exception. Plot development is light and concentrates on entertaining while gently bowling along. Direction is perfectly balanced and beautifully paints the Cape landscape.Ultimately predictable, Space Cowboys is about entertainment, where the "gentle" adjective refers to it's lightness of touch rather than accelerated decrepitude.

filled with laughs and mishaps this is another must see movie for the whole family the cast didnt seem to take the script too seriously and you could see where there is certain things edited out like when they are winding each other up you know they ended up falling about laughing but you never saw that on screen

This film is a real hidden gem with a cast which are simply outstanding. It would be wrong to single out any of the "boys" for praise above the others as all four performaces are great both as individuals and work so well as a group. This will certainly be a film you willwatch again and again.

I love this film and has a great cast with an unusual story line.

There is no mention on the sellers site as to countries this DVD can play in. I got error on loading which is I assume connected to the crazy system of restricting the world into zones and this being from wrong zone. Returning for replacement if in fact it should play in the UK.

Muy buena pelicula y con un gran reparto de actores veteranos de alto nivel (ya no se ve eso hoy en dia) es como un Armageddon versión light y más realista dentro de lo que cabe.

名優それぞれが最高の持ち味を出してます。微妙な表情や仕草が、やっぱり凄いなぁと思いながらみてます。何十年たっても、たとえいがみ合った時期があっても親友というストーリーが最高です。自分も頑張らないと！と思える映画です。アラフィフとかの人が見たら面白いかもですね。
