DBM-8FR Cuisinart Coffee Mill
This is my second Cuisinart grinder, the first was identical to this one except it had a smooth rather than brushed surface. It was great but just quit after about 2-3 years. I shopped carefully for a replacement without finding anything with this capabilty that wasn't double or triple the price. This is a review of both old and new grinders. The "new" grinder was perfect except it had a tiny tweak to the stainless cover on the bottom edge on one side. Not noticeable without close examination. We grind coffee once or twice daily. Nice size hopper, holds quite a few pots worth. Timer allows you to skip the measuring, just set the timer number to the number cups, press the button, wait a few seconds, then dump the freshly ground coffee into your filter. We grind it finely and it does a good job. It's fairly noisy but not terrible. Only problems I had with the old one was the discharge area would get clogged once in a while and have to be cleaned with a sharp instrument. If you like dark roasted oily coffee beans this will happen to you too I'm sure. So overall it looks good and works well. I just hope it lasts longer than the last one. The old one just quit without warning so I'm not sure if it was the motor, some problem with the switch or a short of some kind. For the money this is a great burr grinder. Also Amazon free shipping was s-l-o-w took over a week to get here and probably 3-4 days for them to even mail it. I've used Amazon free shipping before and I didn't remember it being so slow. Compared to Newegg this is terrible. I got an order the next day with Newegg free shipping, and thats typical for them.

Way better than a blade!
I purchased this device to replace a blade grinder that is starting to go out. After researching several, I decided to take a chance on the refurbished model because of price and reviews of the non-refurbished unit. I will be updating as time allows. Some items to be aware: this is NOT a conical burr grinder. It is a direct-drive plate burr or flat burr grinder. It is not the more expensive gear-reduced conical burr grinder. There is a huge difference between the two in terms of price and performance. Deal with it.The grinder doesn't have a classifier either. Fines will be made. It's life. Deal with it. BTW, chemical engineer here - I know industrial size reduction pretty well. In any event, I expect reasonable consistent grind with about 5-10% fines - the finer the grind, the higher the fines will be - it's a function of time between the plates.First entry 04/13/2016:First of all, what a difference in grind! Wow. Much more consistent in grind and I could taste the difference. Smoother, less bitter. Details: The appliance is kind of big. It isn't going into a cabinet to hide (at least here in my house). So I had to find counter space (6x9x11" or so). I ground a pot's worth of coffee with the grind adjustment set to medium-fine (5 clicks in). The grinder isn't quiet but, hey, time to wake up! It isn't that loud either. The grounds were neatly contained in the plastic bin. Once complete, I removed the bin, tapped it a few times to get the grounds to settle, removed the bin top, and poured it into a filter. There was a little bit of fines remaining on the plastic due to static cling (but not very much - I'd say less than 5% but I didn't analyze it. It was MUCH less fines than a blade grinder with no oversized/unground chucks of coffee!)). I put the cover back on and placed it back into the unit. There is a definite 'click' when the bin safety switch contacts. I checked the grinding plates afterwards. Little residue, cleaned easily. Removing residue will be a once-per-week chore. So, as far as it goes, great grinder for the money (so far, one day in). Way better than any blade grinder I've used.Update May 15 - still great! Used to grind a pot worth daily.Update September 24, 2016: grinding 6-10 cups worth pretty much daily. Awesome grinder!Update July 8, 2017: keeps on ticking. 6-10 cups per day. Still grinds very well!

Don't worry about it being remanufactured, at all!
First, the seller was awesome. Super fast shipping and safe packaging is all you need.On to the grinder, I was asked to get one similar to our previous cuisineart grinder that served us for more years than I could remember, always giving us a consistant medium grind that made awesome coffee. The first thing I noticed while shopping is all the rediculously over-reviewed grinders taking up the first two pages of my search.I'm just not inclined to trust a brand I'm unfamiliar with that also got their reputation through giving away free product.. but then struggled to find a burr grinder that was under $200 and looked solid.I was shocked to find this one, and at a price far cheaper than is even reasonable. Figured perhaps its a newer model? Nope, exact same as our previous. Talk about time-tested.Was still a little uncomfortable with purchasing a remanufactured grinder.I have to tell you that I couldn't find a single mark upon it. It was absolutely flawless and I couldn't possibly be more impressed. Two days after ours broke, which was due to being knocked off the counter, we were back to having a perfect grinder.I can't begin to say how impressed I am with whoever remanufactured it. I would swear it's brand new.If you're looking for a coffee grinder, please buy this one. I'm so grateful toward the seller.Oh and FYI, I wasn't paid off, no free stuff, go ahead and check my profile. I'm just that blown away by this deal.*UPDATE* I'd compare it to those old T100 pickups that just dont know how to die, but it cleans up easier and nicer.A small appliance working well for ten years is, to me, unheard of. I'd like to shake the hand of the person behind this design, and the remanufacturer's as well.Oh, and theres no powder explosion or whatever from the ground coffee's container. It sticks to the walls of said container, but a gentle tap of the hand lays it back down. If these guys sell t shirts, I'll buy one.
