Badly researched, poorly written
I started reading the book as an impulse buy in an airport but didn't get beyond the 3rd footballer profiled. I read the stories about Mattheus and Davids with interest but it was only when i got to the section about Gazza did i realise how bad this book was as i know a bit about Gazza's career and British football generally. I counted no less than 5 facts in the Paul Gascoigne section that were incorrect, which left me wondering how many other facts were incorrect about the players whom i don't know as much about, and therefore if i can't trust the research what is the point in reading it? The one that springs to mind was that the author claimed Vinny Jones received the fastest ever red card for a challenge after 3 seconds. This is not correct - he received a yellow for a challenge after 3 seconds but not a red. There was also a silly spelling mistake - when talking about Vinny Jones, apparently he received a 'red car' rather than a 'red card' for a dangerous challenge. Does no one proof read these things?! If the book shop i had bought this from had been local i would have taken it back.
