Excellent for young youth
L.E. Labarge writes an excellent easy to read book that would help other young people deal with adversity normally found entering Jr. High and Highschool. But, add the extra burden of going through these years having epilepsy or other physical issues can make growing up even harder. Laura shows young people that if you persevere and find your true talent that they can get through it and lead a normal life. I recommend this book to any young person with some type of disability that they feel makes the different and makes them feel out of place. Reading "Freak or Unique" can make a difference for special those young people.

A lovely story!
Freak or Unique was a lovely story. Amity was such a refreshing character and I can see tons of younger people relating to her and finding strength in her.It was also amazing to see a main character with epilepsy. It’s not a condition I read about often but given that my sister has it I think the author did an excellent job representing it in an accurate way.My only small criticism was the story did tell a lot rather than show but I thought it was a wonderful tale and I was very invested in Amity and all of her friends!

Enjoyable and informative
Stories like these should become more common, especially in the times we live in where tolerance and acceptance are not taught as often as needed. Differences are what makes each of us special and make the world a better place. This was an enjoyable read and I recommend it.

illuminating
This is a very candid glimpse into the world of a young teenager with epilepsy. She experiences some bullying and is often left out of social experiences because of the awkwardness others feel around her. I think that many of us can relate to this, especially from our adolescents. This is a very well written and emotional read. I highly recommend it to middle grades and older readers.
