A masterclass in focused design
OM System, formerly known as Olympus cameras like Alvin Stardust used to be Shane Fenton, is now owned by a Japanese company called JIP who are bent on bringing the brand to the cutting-edge of technology, promising tough, compact, lightweight cameras that are going to be packed to the gunwales with futuristic features. The OM-1 Mark II here is only their second camera since the marque was established in 2020, but they've obviously been busy: This camera is indeed jam-packed with tasty tech, but crucially, especially if your a bit of a useless klutz like yours truly it has taken tips from the smartphone world to make it a more intuitive, user-friendly device. So it has what the company are claiming is the worlds best image stabilisation, at 8.5 steps of compensation, touchscreen live GND filtering, a 'sticky subject detector' which tracks the photographs subject: This is why, along with the sturdy construction, weatherproofing and rubberised controls, this is being touted as a camera especially suited nature/sports photographers: The real breakthrough here being 120fps continuous shooting at a much lower price point than any of it's competitors. Videography is of course supported and again is comparatively simple and intuitive. So, in summary, there's a lot to like here and very little negative to say.The camera has one of the fastest sensors available, giving continuous 120fps shooting, offered by very few cameras, all of which are at a much higher price point than this one. That feature alone will be enough to attract many buyers. Add to that the simple to use on-board touchscreen, GND filtering -allowing you to leave a lot of your lenses at home, and the in-camera editing, and you can see that what you've got is exactly what the company set out to do - create a tough, weatherproof, ultra-portable camera loaded with handy tech designed for use in the outdoors and at sporting events: And they've managed to deliver that at a comparatively competitive price, too. An extremely impressive camera, a masterclass in focused design. Five stars.

Outstanding camera with many features
Firstly, I want to mention that I am not a professional and have a basic understanding of cameras and photography in general however as soon as this bad boy arrived I fell in love with it. The instruction manual included in the kit was very basic so I downloaded the full instructions from the official website of the brand as I was eager to learn how to use it.It looks like a really appealing camera for those who want a lot of advanced capabilities packed into a small, lightweight body capable of withstanding whatever nature can throw at it. The OM-1 Mkii is IP53 certified, meaning it's highly dust and water-resistant. It's not waterproof, so you can't take it swimming, but we didn't need to concern ourselves while shooting in the rain. Additionally, the OM-1 Mkii includes HDR shooting options, live composite, focus stacking, and a high-resolution mode which expands the resolution of your still images. I had no problems navigating the on-camera menu system to adjust the settings and access features of the OM-1 Mkii. The viewfinder is a high resolution 5.76 million dot display, while the screen is 1.62 million dots, and both are bright with great colour and clarity. The screen is my favourite variety, a fully articulating monitor with a particularly strong hinge and clasp. It swings out from the camera so that it can face forward or really in any direction you desire. There are so many features so you need to spend a serious time to get the most out of the camera. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out why the camera is not behaving the way you anticipate. This, of course, can be mitigated by spending some time with YouTube and the camera manual.
