5 Little Birds Wooden Logic Puzzle Game with 60 Challenges – Deduction Game for Ages 5+

Absolutely love the game, my 2.5 year old really likes to put the bids on the tree. It says it’s great for 5+, but my girl is 2.5 and I’d recommend for even younger kids to try. You can always modify the game and simply practice with pins for fine motor skills. My 2.5 yo simply copies the easiest tasks from the book which is amazing and then I do the most challenging tasks when she’s asleep. Great toy and also very beautifully made and very sturdy. I’ll keep the game forever!

SmartGames makes the highest quality, most durable games I have in the Pre-K classroom. They have become a staple on the shelf and kids keep coming back for more. All the SmartGames I own (13 different games and multiples of some) are for a single player. Some of these games I have had for years now and the only thing that shows signs of wear is the box. The amount of learning and thinking involved with these great products keeps my students engaged at length.This game, like many others from SmartGames is for a single player and requires a challenge booklet. In the booklet you will find numbered levels from the easiest up through more advanced levels. There are hints on each level which requires spatial awareness, perspective and directionality.Students are also working on fine motor strength and targeting skills. My best puzzle solvers stepped up to the plate on this one today. They were able to whip through the first few levels after getting the hang of the hints as the first few are pretty face value. As the challenges get harder there are groupings of birds and gray birds (not revealing the color) that all need to be true to have solved it.The clues could be viewed from either side so students need to keep turning the tree around to look from each side and eliminate possibilities. There is only one answer for each challenge. It isn't fully an independent game as kids have to turn to the back of the book to find the correct answer and check their hard work.This game has some similar concepts as the Snow White game from SmartGames where perspective and position matters. We all love SmartGames here! So much rich learning and scaffolded learning which caters to all learning levels.Durable and beautiful tree and birds that should last for years to come and compliments our woodland birds unit well. Great quality logic game, that provides varying difficulty for all ages. Components are top notch – included in the box is a nicely painted wooden tree (with a plastic base) as well as 5 chunky plastic birds that are meant to be clipped into various holes of the tree.At first play (with 2 adults) – we were admittedly a bit confused, as the rules were kind of (too) simple; for example, there is no complexity to the starter puzzles (placement of the birds within the tree are exactly as depicted). As such, our initial thought was that this game seems to cater to very young children (perhaps ages 4 to 6). However, after going through the various levels and playing up to the highest difficulty, we’ve found that there’s definitely a lot more to this game than meets the eye; while most will find the puzzles to be relatively easy, this game still provides complexity and depth, and can present a challenge to older kids and even adults (especially at the “wizard” level).Overall, a great way to build cognitive thinking skills in children and a fun refresher for us adults, especially for those young at heart!

This game is such a cool concept. The pieces are well made and durable, and the kids really enjoyed clipping the birds onto the tree. My 5 year old could follow the directions on the easiest level, and my older kids found the next levels to be challenging.

We love the colorful birds. Plus the easy flow progression allows the player to start off simple and it adds all the different components one at a time. We also love the gripping aspect of the clips. Love these thinking games that are able to be played independently and not on a screen.

This game was a favorite of the younger children. They had to match the birds in the tree with the challenges they were given. It is also 3-D for an added challenge.

* This is a fun logic game that truly scales. The first few starter puzzles are barely puzzles- the pictures just show where each bird goes, but eventually the full picture is segmented, then truly left out, then colors aren’t always given. That you can look at the board from either side, and the hints can be from the ‘front’ or ‘back’ of the tree really stretches your brain.* As with all smart games the pieces are wonderful. The tree is wood and clicks nicely into the base, and unclicks just as nicely to put away.* The birds are bigger than I thought, they use a clothespin mechanism, and I would say are the size of a regular clothespin, I was expecting them to be smaller- but these are great for small, big, or less steady hands.* the colors are good and they really pop- although if you are red/green colorblind this probably won’t work for you, as it’s red, orange, yellow, pink and blue birds on a green tree. It may just make it extra challenging.* The solutions are in the back of the book, not on the next page, so it’s more intentional to ‘cheat’* There are countless puzzle apps out there, but it’s nice to actually look and touch the pieces, and flip it around to get a good perspective. Plus, this game more than the others is pretty enough to just leave out on display (in a montessori shelf for kiddos or a bookcase or coffee table) enticing adults and kiddos to take it out and try it.
