An absolutely beautiful set! TLOTR is my favorite book and I've been looking for a while for a reading set thats durable (paperbacks are just too flimsy). I had my eye on this hardcover set for a while but wasn't sure. I finally bought them for myself for Christmas and I am so glad I did. They are absolutely beautiful!!!! They are strong, sturdy and well made. But in addition to this, they are just beautifully done. From the simple cover art embossed in gold, copper and silver, to the contrasting page edge colors, they are stunning! I also love the ribbon book mark included on each book. I am completely in love with this set!

Well made paperbacks that were a fantastic gift for my friend. They look exactly like the photo, and were nice for the price.

This Collector’s edition is a beautiful edition of The Lord of the Rings. The hardcover of each book is elegant and beautiful. The map that comes with the set as well as the maps in the back and front covers of each book are in Tolkien’s own red inking, rather than the black-and-white restencils that are in most editions. The set looks great either in its box or for individual display on a shelf. They also are just great readings, with an included ribbon bookmark. Highly recommend this box set as a gift for any Tolkien fan.

Delivered on time, appropriately boxed for shipment. Arrived without any indications of damage in transit. The books appear to have like matching to minimize ghosting. The font is clear. The paper is a nice quality, matte finished and a little cream to off white with all qualities including thickness towards easier reading over longer period is of time. Nice Oxford hollows, head and tail bands that match the covers and the ink dyed page ends. Very nice! And a nice map included with additional maps for the liners and end pages front and back. And of course board over I believe paper covers.

What else can you say? It's Tolkien. It's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, all together in one big set. You saw the movies, now read the books. You won't regret it.

These William Morrow editions of the big Tolkien works are beautiful. I won't bother to review the actual stories themselves - if you don't know, you're missing out on some of the greatest literature ever penned. I have several other editions but was happy to see a good deal on a nicely bound hardcover set, so I ordered this one on a whim. I separately ordered The Hobbit and The Silmarillion from this same publisher and they arrived - boxed - in perfect condition. This LOTR set, however, was sent USPS in white bubble wrap packaging, and while they tried to protect the books with 2 layers of said bubble wrap, the top of the spines of two books were marred in transit, along with the back bottom corner of the display box. I'm giving this 4 stars not because USPS just plain sucks as a shipping partner, but because the manufacturer's packaging lends itself to this sort of damage since it's only shrink-wrapped along the visible upper edges of the spines, instead of fully enclosed in a 2-part slip cover of some sort. Short version: These would be a great display set if they arrived with no damage. They're still wonderful and maybe even repairable, so I'm quite happy.

El boxset está precioso, llegó en perfectas condiciones y definitivamente luce muy bien en cualquier espacio : ) Sólo como advertencia: La protección de envío para el boxset no es muy buena, tan sólo viene en una caja (ligeramente más grande que el boxset en sí) y envuelto en plástico y ya; sin burbujas de aire ni nada; yo tuve la suerte de que llegó muy bien, pero es probable que en otras ocasiones haya daños por el empaque tan barato : / Sólo como observación a tener en cuenta. Fuera de eso, cómo ya dije, es una edición muy linda.
