My first one is now loaded (maximum width) with books, and I can rest a couple more on top of the upright ones. One book is a tall heavy softcover, and it topples over without support. When I remove the 2 thickest "support" volumes, and it topples, the side where it lands barely moves at all, mostly just the front of the frame, not the accordion web. With unattached bookends, that might have fallen off the table.Not sure what the "non-skid" portion of the description intends. There's no rubber/silicone pad under the bookends. But the mechanism holding the ends together didn't open significantly when I performed the test above on fewer than maximum width.Notice that each color seems to have it's own reviews, so look at each to see more.
