Q: How much sand is needed to fill the KidKraft Backyard Sandbox

my sandbox is on order, so i can't tell you from experience, but the KidKraft website says 12-14 bags of sand...though it doesn't say how big the bags are! http://www.kidkraft.com/toys-and-playsets/outdoor/sandboxes/00130

Q: Does the sandbox have a bottom?

Q: Does the white liner attach to anything or do you just lay it down? And, do I need a waterproof cover since this one is mesh and will let water in?

We think it is just held in place by the sand. You do not need a waterproof cover, unless you don't want the sand to get wet. The water seeps through the liner as it has holes in it for that purpose. Slightly damp sand is easier to work with. Our mesh cover only lasted a year or too, though, because chipmunks or something else ate through it. We really liked the mesh cover. It was easy to cover the sandbox and secure with the Velcro straps. We eventually came up with a makeshift cover that happens to be waterproof, but we keep having to dump water off it when it rains.

Q: How much sand do I need to fill this? 25-lb?

I started with 500lbs of sand and that filled the sandbox less than half way. I got 400 more lbs and that was perfect for what we wanted (about 3/4 full). It all depends on how full you want it.
