Best budget micro/mini emulator console for your busy life!
For my first emulator device, I’ll keep this one. Things just work, mostly reliably. However if you want to maximize the abilities of this little powerhouse, flash a custom firmware to it day one. Had the Miyoo A30 which is a direct competitor and has a few downfalls, couldn’t last 48 hours with it, had to return it then got this one. The battery life of this console is outstanding for its size and how well it plays more demanding games even including moments when it isn’t perfect. Fun to use once you get the hang of smaller buttons and using without any joysticks. (Unless you use a wired USB-C controller with it) The controls are reminiscent of a 8bitdo controller which I’ve recently got used to so for the price of basically $50 it’s a fair value for the money. Being a micro size emulator the graphics show well, it’s not HD but you can definitely see what your looking at on most games. Be careful charging, read reviews, they say to not charge overnight as it could over charge. It gets somewhat warm when charging or gaming for an hour or more but I can’t be more clear it’s miles better on heat (and battery life) than the Miyoo A30. I feel like this one should last me so I also picked up a silicone case to protect it, feels nice, I recommend it highly! A caveat I should address are the shoulder/bumper buttons on top do rattle very noticeably, not my favorite but I can live with it, some people have put foam/vinyl inside to improve it with success, I don’t intend on opening it at this time. This item included a black Kioxia (Toshiba) branded 64GB micro sd card preloaded with some games on it, I played a few fine but ultimately the card is just a backup of the original OS for me, I don’t intend on using it. But as people say, use a high end brand card in this device. I even use the newer Walmart ONN brand micro sd cards rated A1 they perform fine. It also had a USB-A to USB-C cable included they say to use only those type of cables due to overcharging with USB-C to USB-C cables and higher wattage plugs but use a charging block rating matching or less powerful compared to what is printed on the back of the device. Another note, this unit does not include built in WiFi. However, there are options if you want connectivity, specific WiFi or Ethernet adapters with a USB-C adapter should work depending on what OS you end up running. Personally I use a USB-C micro sd card reader for transferring files/games on the go with my iPhone instead of using WiFi or hotspot like other models. Anyways if your in the market for one of these, it’s a great starter device, I recommend it but be prepared to do some research and make sure your comfortable tinkering with it prior to purchasing or expecting perfect out of the box.

I use it with Knulli, and it is everything you want, nothing you don't.
This is great out of the box, cheap, durable for the price, and not too crowded a controller scheme (I am a 6'5" man that weights over 250 and I can use it without significant hand cramps).I tossed out the old OS and replaced it with BATOCERA Knulli, and it works fantastic. The only gripe that I have is that if I didn't have a BATOCERA setup elsewhere to scrape the game boxart and such, I wouldn't be able to do this. With Knulli on it though there are 1-to-1, so if I scrape a set on my home device and then transfer the folder structure, the populate feature brings over all the scraped data as you'd expect.10 hour battery life on older systems, DC and PS1 and such take a bit more out of it.Shoulder buttons are small, but spaced enough to make PS and DC games not seem tedious.

Smaller than expected, not the best support
I purchased this for my nephew. Though I never purchased an anbernic handheld before, I did inquire about it after seeing a picture of someone I knew using it. I was aware that many of the games where retro titles and I figured my nephew might enjoy it so I purchased it.The first thing that was off putting was the size of the handheld. It definitely appeared bigger in the picture but it is quite small(smaller or the same as my iphone se I believe) and although I think it should be an okay size for the nephew or someone with small hands, the size was definitely a bit inadequate for my personal use. When I initially ran the handheld, I was surprised to find it had a ton of games loaded on their already. It pretty much had games from 3-6th generations on there which I honestly did not expect. This even included arcade games and although some prime retro titles were missing, I knew I was going to be able to load some of the ones I had in my possession on there.Unfortunately, loading games onto the handheld is not as simple as I hoped it would be. I was hoping that I would just be able to connect the cable from the usb-c port of the handheld to usb-a port of my PC to access the storage but that port is just for charging.I had to purchase a usb card reader as my PC doesn't come with it built in so keep this in mind. After doing some research, I found that the firmware that came with the handheld wasn't up to date so I attempted to update it and ran into a very frustrating issue.Apparently, the latest firmware that was available for the model was only for the 16G handheld model which was 1.8. When trying to add this firmware it would essentially partition the storage in a way that would leave 90% of the storage space unformatted. What got me even more perturbed was finding out that I could only use a firmware version that was 4 versions behind in order to get something that supported the 64G model. The version the handheld was on initially was 1.6 so I was a bit dumbfounded as to why this wasn't available on Anbernic's website.I was unfortunately in a rush to get this done for my nephew and all of that took quite some time so I didn't to get to mess around with it as much as I would have liked to.Navigation didn't seem too terrible though I do worry that he may have a bit of a time with figuring out how to quit out of games.Though my initial experience with the R28XX wasn't the best, I wouldn't totally be against getting another handheld from anbernic. I know there is a newer model releasing next year that may end up around the same price, so you may want to hold off and see if that model is any better.I really do like the fact it came with so many games already loaded but the size and the support that was lacking for firmware really needs improving before I give this a full stamp of approval.

A Great Little Handheld
Very happy with this game. The device feels very premium, I’m impressed by the quality of it. Anbernic has released a handy game that you can take with you anywhere. MinUI works very well with this retro handheld.
