Great Replacement
Replaced the older one after it was damaged, not a product issue. New one works like OEM. EXTREMELY HEAVY!!!

It was a little bit of work to mount this ...
It was a little bit of work to mount this unit where a much smaller campbell-hausefield unit had been previously but was well worth the effort in the end.

Planned obsolescence
Worst compressor head I've ever had. I did all the regular maintenance and used IR's absurdly over priced all season synthetic oil ($50 for 2 quarts). My ss5 compressor head failed within 200 hours of use. This model has a faulty pressure switch and head gasket problems that cause the compressor head to over heat. Its a terrible piece of over priced equipment thats going to cost you hundreds of dollars every time you need to do any service to it (the head service kit is $280, for some gaskets and a steel plate!). Buy the Northstar 2 stage 4593100 instead its a far better unit for $40 less than the IR and way more performance 24.4 cfm @90 psi.Youtube has video after video of problems with this compressor, dont waste your money on Ingersoll Rand they arent what they used to be.

it's a good pump though
This was a direct part replacement. Problem with it is when I run this compressor, it runs continuously for a month, cycling on and off as it should. I seem to be burning one up every other year. And that is with regular oil changes between runs. For the money, it's a good pump though. The use of my compressor is pretty severe duty.

Not reliable.
Poor quality. We serviced our pump regularly with the factory IR oil. Within one year the pump began to loose compression when it was warm (90 degree ambient temperature). Before the pump was two years old it began to seize while attempting to generate 125 psi of tank pressure. We would have to let the pump cool off for hours before attempting to make pressure again. By the third year we stopped using the factory IR oil and began to run the pump with 15w-40 Rotella just to keep it going. Now we are approaching the 4th year (July 2015 marks 4th year) and the pump is producing oil into the air charge line. The pressure switch that cuts the pump on and off has malfunctioned pretty much since day one, not turning on at 100 psi like it is designed and occasionally overcharging the tank. We are very disappointed with this IR product. We have always used IR for our air tools as they are absolutely the best. I believe we will purchase a Quincy compressor next. As for this pump, we will rebuild it and use it for another few years (no rebuild kits available so must match with parts from the machine shop). If you are using this at home for low volume use air tools (impact gun/wrench or occasionally filling tires on a car) then this may serve you well. If you plan to run die grinders, paint sprayers or anything of that nature, stay away. To spend $1000 on this only to have all of these problems within a few years is not a good investment. If you are a small repair shop or a car lover at home, steer clear unless you can afford the down time to constantly repair/replace this unit. We are a single bay, low volume repair shop. We do not do body work and we do not use our air tools for very much (hand tools often produce better quality work). This compressor should have suited our needs.....it failed to do so.
