The right retriever
It’s great to carry a ball retriever, but you don’t want some big thing sticking out of your bag getting in the way of your clubs and signaling to everyone that you’re probably going to dump a few in the water today. That’s why the ProActive Sports Player Select Super-Lite is the way to go. Fits in the large apparel pocket of your golf bag and really doesn’t add any weight for us walkers. The trade-off to the light weight and telescoping design is you will need to be a little gentle with opening and closing for it to last. Well worth it for the performance and functionality.

An outstanding ball retriever
My buddies are jealous at just how compact and effective this little gem is. It is truly compact...fits in one of the pockets on the side of my golf bag. This is the second one I have bought...I lost the first one. See, I'd buy it again! Stay in the fairway and you will rarely use it, but help your buddies when they put their ball in the water.

Compact & light weight
Likes:Very light weight, in fact it will float. I needed to force it down to the ball when in water.Very compact - easily fits in a garment pocket of your golf bag.DISLIKESEnd came off when I was collapsing it after use. I'll try gluing it back in place.Note: ALWAYS be moving toward yourself once you snare a ball. If you push away, the ball will dislodge from the retriever due to the water pressure. This makes it easy to empty once you get the ball on dry land, but can be frustrating while still in the water.- Also, the ball will fall out if you lift the cup higher than your hands.. Keep it low until over a level spot, then put the cup with ball on the ground and push away. Ball will roll right out!

Lightweight, easy to use
I had my last retriever(same model) for about 3 years until it finally wore out. I have probably used it 500 times and never had a problem. Very lightweight and folds up for easy storage. Reaches about 8 feet which is usually enough

Light weight. With practice, picking up a ball isn't hard. Recommend lubricating shaft.
Very light weight. If you carry your bag, you'll barely notice it! 9-foot length is good.I gave this two stars orginally because it was hard for me to pick up a golf ball out of water with it. An e-mail from the company explained the method, which is to put the head slightly past the ball and then drag the head toward you. This works fine!I also initially found it hard to fully collapse the retriever. I fixed this by fully extending the shaft (it may stick, so be sure it's fully extended), then cleaning the shaft, then lubricating the shaft. I used WD-40 Lithium. This solved the problem of jamming when closing. Even so, I recommend that, If you lend this to a playing partner, ask him or her to leave it open so that you can clean it and dry it before closing it.

Light, but hard to use
It very light and works pretty well in many situations (water, bushes, etc). But, it is a bit difficult to open and close - you must pull or yank all of the sections fully out or back in until they lock. You can only use it when it is fully extended. It easily grabs balls that are sitting in the open. It is hard to grab balls that are embedded in mud or bushes. It is easy to break -- the smallest sections are really thin plastic tubes. if you catch it in a bush or reeds when fully extended, it will likely break (mine did).

Hard to collapse
I've bought this 2 times now, and both times it worked like a charm for retrieving golf balls. I would go so far as to say this might be a top design for a golf ball retriever. However, I have now broken both retrievers prior to getting my money's worth out of them. The first time it happened, it snapped when I used a lot of force to close it. I felt this was my fault, so I bought another, thinking that I needed to be careful when collapsing it.First use with the new one, I was very careful to not put too much force on it, but was then unable to collapse the final segment. Remembering how easy I broke the last one, this time I gingerly tried to tap it loose on the ground, not too hard as I was afraid to snap it. in this process, the butt end cap came off, which I was prepared to superglue back on, but it broke again with the basket snapping clean off...So now I would like to warn everyone, this is a great design, and functionally, for retrieving golf balls, it might be one of the best. There is a major design flaw with collapsing this product, which is really the main reason I went with this over a more robust system. I saw someone comment about using WD40 or a similar lubricant on theirs, which may work, but I'm not willing to spend any more money on this to test it myself.TL:DR This product has major issues with longevity and might cost more than it's worth in that regard.

Reliable tool
I have had this product for several years and keep it in the side of my bag. I play a course several times a year with an island green where this comes in quite handy. It's easy to use and sturdy enough if you don't try to hit your friends or take their snacks with it and only use for the intended purpose. It grabs the golf ball very easily in my experience and I often end up taking more balls home than I came with.
