I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem

Great book for self esteem in kids
I read this book (from my own home library) to my child's kindergarten class. His teacher liked it so much that she asked to borrow it for a day to read to her morning section of kindergarten (my son is in the afternoon class). I figured, if she likes it that much she should have her own copy! This book is validating and affirming for kids with quotes like "I'm gonna like me even when I get the answer wrong like thinking a ruler is 10 inches long". This helps me talk with my kids about liking themselves even when they aren't perfect.

These were great kids, but needed validation on the inner storms ...
I purchased one set of Jamie Lee Curtis' books when my son was little. After he outgrew them, I donated them to the public library. Fast forward to about 5 years later and I was in a job working with children diagnosed as severely emotionally disturbed. These were great kids, but needed validation on the inner storms that they were feeling. I remembers these books and reordered 3 of the ones I had previously had. The kids loved them! They introduced topics in their terms and we were able to expand on the topic in ways that they understood. It was also fun when the kids used the books to show off their newly acquired reading skills.

Get this book!
I really like these therapy books by Jamie Lee Curtis! This book looks great! No torn pages and is in great shape. My only complaint is the book is warped a little... It's a hard back book so I doubt I'll ever be able to get it out, but it isn't that noticeable. I doubt my 6 yr old will care anyway!

Great lesson!
The occupational therapist in me fell in love with this book and the self acceptance of the heroine for herself. The mommy part loved the message it sends toy kindergartner and toddler about accepting themselves and their differences - especially with the comparisons that people point out. It's also helped my oldest adjust to kids in her class not "approving of" her lunchbox (she's a girl with a scoobydoo lunchbox).

Love it a must read for little ones
I brought this book for a child I nannied and just brought it as a gift of going to buy three more copies for the children in my family ( one for reach household). It is really good book about self acceptance something I believe should be taught at home before school.

What a wonderful way to build self-esteem.
This is a terrific book for children, teaching them to like themselves just they way they are without coming off as preachy. The illustrations are brilliant -- full color on every page. The cadence is catchy, a rhythm that carries the story throughout the entire book. The vocabulary is simple, but it will be difficult for some younger readers to read themselves, because half of it is written in cursive. Both of my children, ages 5 and 7, enjoy having me read them this book. Even I feel myself in good spirits when I'm done. Fun to read and fun to be read to, an excellent book.

nice
This book is lovely and my daughter enjoys it,however I have changed some of the wording whilst reading it from 'gonna' to 'going' and a few other American terms to more English but it's a hit.

Nice story, awful font!
Nice story, awful font! So for that reason I've downed it one star but it is a nice story about building self esteem in children.

Accessible for our 5 year old who really can't stop looking at the pictures.
I discovered this by accident when looking at books for self-esteem for my son who we adopted when he was 3. At 5 now this book is a really enjoyable and accessible book to remind him 'to like me'.
