I had been looking for a cable release system to replace the system installed with our new door about 3 years ago. The old lock had somehow seized and the flimsy key would not even enter the lock (it seems most of these are now made poorly). The key and cylinder of this system are much more robust and mechanically smooth. Feel fortunate to have discovered the need to replace the cable release system before a power outage would have resulted in such discovery.Check your current hardware dimensions first: The hole required for insertion of this hardware (2.54mm/1") was larger than my existing hole, but the mounting holes were spaced the same (~38.5mm/1.5"). Length of insert for lock cylinder is ~ 40mm/1.6". See pics.

After blocking up the rear access to my garage I needed to fit an emergency release mechanism. This was easy to install and is a very effective way to release if the motor should fail
