Cheap, nice pony/clamp to start with!
First off, let's be honest the one they sent me is not the one in the first picture...with the leather, that was taken fro Ivan.So when you buy this, expect a raw, not too well put together clamp that gives you lots of potential and can work with.First thing I did was to cleaned off all the dust/wood dust all around. It does not really need sanding but the clamp tips are rough...the opening is not too wide, but enough to fit thick leather/s and you can push it wider with your fingers. Once you let go, it will hold lightly onto the leather and when you push the clamp down, it will hold onto your work like super glue! This is the best part of the toggle clamp vs the turning knob ( if you used one, you will know).I did add some things that I have spare around the home. I have a great C-clamp (do not tighten or it will be hard to detach...just stop once it tough the desk!) that has 7 points/directions that I can attach to....but I also have a spare ball head so I use that too to get all angles I want. Then I cut some spare leather I have around and add to clamp tips. However I dont know how to drill a hole for a magnet or want to glue one on. So I just put one in the bottom where one of the screws are. No need to glue, once I put one in, it stays in like super glue and can hold any size needles and tools too!Overall, I am giving it a 5 stars for bare clamp/pony that I can make into what I can use daily for super cheap. This is great for beginners like me or just can't afford a really nice one at the moment.

Seems to work just fine.
Not sure if it was supposed to come with the leather pieces on the top like in the photos, but mine did not. Otherwise works as expected.

Would you please help me sew this belt? This would be happy to
Very nice piece of craftsmanship. I refused to pay the price the leather companies nation wide wanted for a stitching pony. This one is of a simple design. The turn of a screw will tighten the jaw strength. Be sure to cover the jaw faces with leather or what ever protective material you want. Nobody wants to ruin a project after putting hours into it.Those who want everything done for them, this is not the tool for you. The jaws do NOT come covered because each of us have different need and call for a different protective surface. My fellow leather crafter, this tool's for you..

Don’t stitch without one!
Put some leather on the jaws and you’re good to go. This is extremely cost effective. Works perfectly and as handy as can be. If your stitching leather - get this!

Good item
Great product, made of red Oak good hardware, could not make it for the price. Anyone that would complain of the quality or construction of this product is crazy.

Cheap starter piece upgrade asap
The price is good to get started. The clamping isn't even on the one I got. I had to put extra leather in to make it clamp better. There are no instructions but its easy to figure out how to use the item. I dont see how it can be considered a desktop use. You need to sit and put the long wood slat under your leg to hold it in place.I'd suggest getting felt or ild leather and put it on the clamping part to keep it from scratching your work.
