Great attachment
Perfect for my stand mixer. Now can make snow cones and shaved ice with the same mixer rather than getting another piece of equipment which I don't have space for in my kitchen. Made of durable material and sharp blades. You can change blades for course ice or fine ice. Can't beat it for the price. Easy to use and easy to clean with easy assembly and dissappear. Works great

Makes nice shaved ice, but hard to load a full mold
This attachment for my KitchenAid does a great job of making a lot of shaved ice quickly. The unit itself is relatively sturdy. There is a lot of plastic, but it isn't flimsy. I do wonder how long the single "shave" blade will last, but it is doing the job so far (I'll come back to update this review if/when it fails). I'm only using ice due to dietary constraints, I imagine the blade would last a lot longer for softer materials. The main frustration with this attachment is that a frozen mold filled almost to the full line will not load into the machine without at least a quarter inch being removed through melting, chopping, etc. (letting it sit ten minutes doesn't do this). Even pulling the head off and making sure the pins on the turning head match the indentations in the ice doesn't work with a full ice puck; it never gets to where it can be locked in. I recommend leaving at least a half inch below the max line in the mold, at least with ice (see pic). There is nothing in the directions that indicates this can occur and it took some time and frustration to get to where it now works with molds less filled, so I have to mark this down a star. This shaved ice attachment for my KitchenAid can easily make a cool treat as long as the molds are not filled within a half inch of their max line.

Scary at FIrst, But I Got the Hang of It!
I love this ice shaver. It is so good at making fluffy ice bits for snowcones. The kids just love it! At first it was really intimidating to use because of how big it is and how the blades are crazy sharp and all the moving parts with a spring-loaded mechanism. But after reading all of the instruction manual. and putting it together to see how it works, it was easy. It came with 8 puck-shaped cups and lids that you fill with either plain water or a flavored liquid that you freeze 12+ hours ahead of time, then load that ice puck into the canister that has a spring loaded plate to hold it in place inside of it. The Kitchenaid mixer motor then spins the puck, that is held in place with spikes against the blade as it turns the puck. It makes two different kinds of ice depending on which of the two blades you employ. Then you can either flavor your ice shavings, or enjoy as is if you made a flavored ice puck ahead of time. This kind of thing is for folks who can plan ahead as you must use the frozen cups. It was a bit tricky at first to get the ice out of the cup, but just pressed in the bottom from the underside and the puck popped out. Then it was a bit tricky to get the moving parts all lined up properly to load up the puck, but there are symbols on the rings to help you line everything up so it works. Just read the manual first, and you'll be fine! One puck was enough for about 3 big servings of ice shavings, or 4 smaller ones. It was really fun to use, and easy to just rinse and set on the dish rack to dry. The first flavor we made was tiger's blood with coconut syrup and orange in the middle.

New attachment that makes me love my KitchenAid a bit more
Me and the kids have had a lot of fun using this ice shaver. It does have some quirks but overall still gets five stars from me.Occasionally, the ice block you created in the provided cup will not mate up with the shaver and the ice won't shave. I've found when this happens, just flip it over to the smooth side and it should take right off (not sure why this works, but it does). Also, once you start shaving a block, don't stop until it is finished as starting a partially shaved block is next to impossible.I wish you could use regular ice in this as you have to plan if you're going to do this for any kind of a crowd. It's okay, you still get five stars because the grandkids love this thing, and I am happy to make blocks ahead and store them in ziplock to keep us supplied for treats. You can easily find flavors at Walmart in the summer for syrups or check out YouTube for quick hacks if you can't find any in your area (just simple syrup and Kool-Aid packets). Also, sweetened condensed milk thinned with a little water makes an excellent cream for shaved ice (my favorite: Orange and Cream).I recommend this product.
