How long is the long life date for?

The ones we got were a mix of US army and Russian army surplus. The US bags have a coded date of manufacturing. You can find calculators online that will decode this date for you. Based on the manufacturing date, they were either close to expiration or had a year still to go. I have no clue about the Russian one. We ate it and nothing happened though.
