Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition, Vol. 1 (Volume 1)

This was a really great first volume of manga and I am so excited to go onto the next in the series.I was already very familiar with this story from watching both versions of the anime more times than I can count but it is a great story with a fun start and lots of intrigue. It was really cool to see Arakawa's original art and story. I loved the art in this book and the fun humour some of which wasn't featured in the anime.I definitely recommend this book both for fans of the anime and people new to the story.Unfortunately my copy had a slightly damaged back cover.Content warnings: animal cruelty, animal death, blood, body horror, child death, death, death of a parent, gun violence, graphic violence, murder

Of course, as a renowned classic, fullmetal alchemist meets up to all the expectations that you have most likely heard. With this great fullmetal edition with superb paper quality all within the confines of a hefty hardcover; I wouldn’t recommend any other way of collecting the series. As always however, when ordering from Amazon, manga damage is a risk. Mine came with several dents to the hardcover but nothing that would offend my display. It’s well worth the discounted price in my option.

Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist is universally regarded as one of the best manga's ever. With good reason, the story and art is outstanding. It's a classic.This is an edition befitting of such a title. It's an extremely high quality, beautiful book which I'm very proud to have.If you enjoyed the anime, then you need to pick this up.

There was small marks on there however not noticable much, I would prefer it if the book was packaged in bubble wrap or wrapped in plastic :)

Bought this to see how it compared to the original viz publishing, and I have to say it's an extremely nice production. The paper is a smooth brilliant white, with crisp black lines, and any of the original colour pages that were previously monotone have been printed in colour - there's even a fancy semi-opaque page at the start.My biggest gripe is that they've left out the best part of the series, and that is the jokes that the original author would write in at the end. Little 4-koma and non canon skits that just made the main work that much more enjoyable have for some reason been left out!The exclusion of these isn't the end of the world, more just something that's holding this book back from being perfect.The only other reason I've slightly down rated this book, and this is a personal preference mind you so if it's not something that'll bother then ignore this point, is that the super crisp and brilliant reproduction is almost too good! There's something about the cheaper and slightly fuzzy, textured paper of the original print that I just like better.Apart from this it's the same amazing story that covers the first book and a half of the manga.

If you've been saving money to start collecting all the Fullmetal Alchemist volumes, this edition could probably be the best purchase you could make. The hardcover format and large print really make it an easier-to-read collector's item, and it's worth every pound.
