Happy Homewares Black Exterior Hanging Porch Lantern Pendant Light

I bought 2 of these superb pendant lamps . First off I must say they are very well made indeed - what a change in this day and age of plastic mouldings that eventually break / rot after a couple of years when used outside whereas these being made of aluminium and glass will last for years . I have hung them on 12 " hanging basket brackets outside either side of my front door and they look beautiful . I have not used a 240v bulb . I have put in my own small solar panel which charges a mobile phone battery which in turn goes to a simple dusk to dawn sensor to run whatever LED array that I like to put inside . At the moment I am useing a 10mm colour changeing LED inside a frosted glass candle shaped tube and they look very good . They are quite bright but I did not want them for the light output but the effect . Just one important point do NOT put a PIR sensor inside these lanterns as they wiil NOT work behind glass because the glass filters out the UV light and body heat which these motion sensors rely on to work ! If you need a PIR motion sensor to switch the light on / off use an external wall mounted one . I am already ready working on a circuit to use a G4 Flickering flame light inside the same frosted glass tube with a very small external PIR sensor still useing the same solar charging circuit ! Not as difficult as it sounds ! !

Good quality item and pretty simple to fit. Looks good with an antique look and feel to it.Took me a while to figure out how to get into the bulb area (a couple of the nuts at the top unscrew to allow the glass area to fall down) otherwise a very hassle free purchase and installation which has made our porch area look a lot better.

Bought one of these for an outside porch. Liked it so much I bought another for a different part of the house. Good quality and easy to put together. Some reviews talk about the chain being difficult to shorten. RUBBISH. If you are at all handy with a couple of good quality piers, it is easy to shorten. Just a bit of patience.

Solid! Very solid..... maybe a bit too solid? I found it impossible to shorten the chain. I also put into it a PIR Bulb.. this one in fact. Daffodil LEB30 - Motion and Light Sensitive PIR LED Light Bulb - Automatic Motion Sensor Activated - Energy Saving (Bayonet - B22, Warm) It is meant to trigger the porch light when someone knocks on the door. But the lower part of the pendant design blocks movement from reach the PIR, and so it doesn't really work. I wouldn't recommend someone follow the same approach I took. Either get a separate PIR motion sensor like this, Brennenstuhl 1170900 Infrared Motion Sensor PIR 180 IP44 , or just stick to an on/off switch indoors.
