More of the same but gets better everytime!
Dynasty Warriors 8. Well, I'm going to assume to most people reading this review have played previous Dynasty Warriors games before so I won't go into too much detail. Also this is a review from someone with a PS3, not Xbox. Like every Dynasty Warriors game, it's pretty much the same hack and slash dynasty warriors game you've always come to know and love, with some improvements here and there: 1. Rage mode is back!! - I missed this from Dynasty Warriors 5, which is my favorite Dynasty Warriors game by far. The way they it's been utilized is different however, but I prefer it this way in DW8. Instead of the rage tokens from DW5, you have this rage meter that you fill up gradually as you fight and kill enemies. Once the meter is full, you press down on R3 just like in DW5 and you go into rage mode and start owning! 2. Weapon system is slightly different than DW7. Each character can still wield two weapons. You still have the compatibility thing like in DW7, but there are a few more weapons to choose from in DW8. Also there are these 'affinity' things that are with each weapon. I've only played the game for a few hours so I don't know what purpose they serve just yet. 3. Current characters! New characters! Return of two old characters! - As with each dynasty warriors game, a couple more new characters have been added to this game, to each kingdom too. I won't say who, but you guys have probably already looked it up anyways. Pang De and Zuo Ci from DW5 have made a return in DW8 woohoo! All characters have been completely redesigned too, and are looking stunning as usual! 4. Free mode is back! 5. Graphics - amazing as usual. The battle stages have all been redone and they look amazing. Well, I haven't played on every battle yet so I can't REALLY say that for sure, but they're probably awesome :). Character models look great as usual and they've been completely redesigned. Opening CG movie is EPIC. Also this was just a little pet peeve (not sure if that's how peeve is spelled) of mine but I hated how in DW7, when you get the Defense x2 and speed x2, you turned all glowy. They fixed this in DW8. You're still glowy when you get a defense x2, but it's way more subtle. As for speed x2, when you intially start moving, you'll see I think 3 blue clones of you running behind you for like a second and then they disappear, but the glowiness is gone. Subtle changes like this are always good. 6. Gameplay - Same as always. Nothing much to say here. Rage mode and Free mode are finally back, as I said earlier. Musou still works like it does in 7, where instead of a continuous musou attack by holding down circle, you have musou bars each representing one musou attack. Fighting system is definitely more fluid in this game than DW7. The map could use a little work. Sometimes I found it hard to find myself on it and the markers can be annoying when there's like 5 of them blinking on the map at once. OVERALL: It's definitely a step up from DW7. I wasn't trying to, but I kinda turned this review into a comparison of DW7 lol. But anyways, if you have DW7 and are on the fence about getting 8, don't be. Yes it's more of the same old. It's Dynasty Warriors so it has to be, but it's worth adding it to your collection. If you're a big fan, get it now at $60, if not, wait a couple months and then get it. Did I mention you should get it? Because you definitely should. I wanted to give this 4.5 stars but you can only do either 4 or 5, and I'd rather give it a 5 than a 4 so I gave it a 5. Good job Koei for making another great entry to the Dynasty Warriors games, and I'll definitely be picking up Xtreme Legends/Empires version of this game when/if they come out. I haven't bought an Xtreme Legends/Empires game since Dynasty Warriors 5, so that's saying something.

Getting Closer...
Likely the best game of the series. The weapons system is enhanced with 100s of weapons in every conceivable fashion. The combat engine offers you several different combinations on the attack, even the ability to switch to a second weapon; I was most pleased with this enhancement. (Older players will note the combat enhancements, which are pretty extreme.) There are over 70 playable characters, the newcomers are pretty cool - but you have to unlock them first. The new Ambition mode is cool, and Story mode follows the Psuedo-Historic account fairly well, for those gamers versed in the actual history behind the 3 kingdoms. In fact, the Wei account is near exact. Free mode is still there for everyone to level up with. So why not 5 stars? First, You cannot create your own character. (You must purchase "Extreme Legends" for that, which I have a whole other "beef" with, but...) Second, the sound track is worn out. It's just worn out. Third, the melodramatic cut scenes are laughable. The voice acting isn't horrible, but... the cut scenes either leave you laughing at the character who just died, or feeling rather strange about an awkward scenario that failed to produce the proper romantic intent - like a 7th graders first kiss. If you're on-the-fence about this one, I'd say go ahead and buy it. I sank 150 hours into it, easy, and had a great time with the new combat engine. Despite my criticism, the game is the best in the series, and Koei is heading in the right direction with this one.

Better than 7, not as good as the classics
Must follow story line during the campaigns, but I still like the classics that ended in DW6. I like to be able to play story mode using one character and have a second player as any character. DW7 and 8 are completely different, so I am disappointed.

FINALLY
I have been waiting for this game for what seems like forever! I have been an avid Dynasty Warriors fan since Dynasty Warriors 1 and own EVERY GAME. Working on getting all of the Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi games as well. This game has really uped the stanards that we all know and love from KOEI. 1. More of the next generation. 2. FINALLY we see more than one or two new WOMEN! 3. The graphics are sick. I mean their attention to detail is phnominal. 4. I started playing it at 5PM TODAY and by 11PM I still had not finished the Story Mode for Shu. And still have like six characters to unlock! 5. WAY MORE CHARACTERS THAN EVERY BEFORE! I love that! But there is one thing I would love to see one day. Leiu Shan was born BEFORE Leiu Bei and Sun Shang Xiang got married. But surely they had kids? And if not in real life then couldn't KOEI give them a son or daughter? 6. Character designs! I LOVE seeing all the new outfits. And when they change one outfit, they change outfits for every single character in that game. I love that. Now lets hope just like with DW7 we get DLC of outfits for all the other games, and special clothes and costumes and what not too. As far as gameplay it is awesome! The only thing that I do miss, is when they are talking in Camp before a battle it doesn't say anything. And the narrator isn't there either. I did like those in the other games, but I can deal with a little bit of reading to get it. But the ease of which it playes, the level of attacks is amazing! I feel like a kid on christmas morning again. I also love the leveling up system on this. For the first time since Dynasty Warriors 6 you can actually get scrolls to help you level up in a battle. I really did miss that in DW7 but that is alright. We got it back and that is all that matters. Overall this is AMAZING! And well worth the money spent on it and then some. I promise you that if you are a true KOEI fan and you get this game you will NOT be let down. :)

Very fun with family and fds, however the story is quite short and it gets a little repetitive and boring quickly.

I had choose this rating as i always love playing Dynasty Warriors games and eighth is not that bad. I only made it up to four levels within the game before i sister came over. The game came fast and even before the delivery date. The game it self is okay and playing it was easy to get done.
