Its fantastic straight but really your only choice for an old fashioned, great colour strong and good value for money considering the quality

Treat yourself to a Rittenhouse quality.
Bought this as a treat to myself. I've had a miniture previously and loved it. Yes it's more money than I'd normally spent but it's so worth it. No fuss with it, I just have it neat. Lovely smooth feel with a peppery spice from the Rye and a hint of toffee. I'm reluctant to describe flavour as it sounds poncy and pretentious and everyone tastes slightly differently, but this is super nice. It's a treat drink rather than an every day one

My wife and I LOVE this Rye whisky, its our absolute fav. Such a treat in cocktails, or even with a bit of cola. Well worth getting

Fantastic quality rye
If you're looking for this in the UK you probably already know it's reputation as an absolute workhorse for cocktails.

Tastes like a 50% Bourbon to me.
The first time I tried this it was over ice and was pretty distinctive in taste, but tasted more like a bottled in bond bourbon when neat at room temp. Similar to Wild Turkey 101. It was ok and made a nice manhattan, but at £40 + and no distinction between lower price American Whiskeys I dont think I'll be buying it again for a long while.

Starting a home bar? A good place to start
Good affordable Rye. This and Wild Turkey 101 Rye are my go to's most of the time. It's a low Rye Rye being only 51% (same as WT101R). So not challenging at all and it wont unbalance the mix when there's other ingredients that play an up front role. You might want to look elsewhere though if you want the Rye to really stand out or you just want a sipping Rye. If that's the case pick a higher Rye mashbill or just a higher proof Rye. There are better Ryes out there for sipping IMO but for mixing this is a good one.
