The Mediums' Book

This is Kardec's second major work ("The Spirits' Book" being his first). I wanted to buy another copy of Anna Blackwell's original translation, as my old one, bought in the early 1990s, was falling apart. I bought Pontiano's edition, which is very shoddy, to put it mildly. The format is very reader-unfriendly: 8.5"x11" rather than the standard 6"x9", the text is crammed in a very small font and very thin margins, chapters run onto each other without a page break. What's more, the text was clearly produced by feeding some text file through an optical character recognition program, thereby producing many spelling mistakes: "God" becomes "Cod", "he" becomes "lie" (see picture), "the" becomes "tile", and so on. After much research, it seems that the only reliable edition of Blackwell's translation is ISBN-13 ‏978-1955435024 (Kalpeny). Either that or go for one of the modern translations.

Very different book from norm.

Hochinteressanter Klassiker, leider mit ein paar verwirrenden Druck- oder Übersetzungsfehlern, was jedoch aufgrund des Alters dieses Werks sowie der Übersetzung nicht wirklich verwundert. Das altertümliche Englisch liest sich etwas zäh, und ich musste mich ziemlich durchbeißen. Dann jedoch hat man eine Informationsfülle, die man in zeitgenössischen Werken heutzutage nicht mehr findet. Wer sich ernsthaft für die Materie interessiert, kommt an diesem Buch nicht vorbei.Einen halben Punkt Abzug würde ich formal für die Fehler geben, weil man da manchmal zum Verständnis etwas raten muss.
