Great game for a family game night!! ****4 player game with lots of changes from the original*******
In order to enjoy this game do not compare it to the original one. My kids (ages 6 and 9) love this game. They love a lot of the newer aspects like the different careers, the night school option to get a new career and the family path that gives more opportunities for having babies. The action cards are fun because some of them have start family conversation which is fun. One says "You started a band" (you either earn some money or have to pay for starting the band I forgot) and then it says what instruments does everyone play? Those questions just add to the fun. There are only a couple cons in my opinion. I am sad it is only 4 players and not 6. If you choose not to go to college you are probably not going to win. The jobs without college make $70,000 or less and the college jobs make $80,000-$120,000 or $130,000. I wish there was more of a chance for a career without college to make more money. I do miss the car and house insurances too! Overall it is a very fun game and my kids love to play it over and over again.

Complex but interesting
The children in our household are a little too young for this more complicated game. They are 4 and 7. Nevertheless, with the help of an adult they did enjoy it. I think in a few years it will be perfect for them. We remember this game from a long time ago but they have added a lot of complexity to it to make it more like real life. And it really is quite good. I think it would be better for old children. It will certainly teach them a lot of real financial decisions.

Fun !! I Really Like the 2014 Version!
The newest version (2014) is a ton of fun. The older version (from the 70s) was fun but it went on forever because there was no established end to the game. The version from the late 90s was really boring and just plain silly. But, the newest version is lots of fun. The game ends when everyone reaches the "Retirement" square. To get there, you still choose your career (lots of great new choices), get married, have babies (if you choose the Life Path), and you can take risks to get more money. The Action Cards are more modern (and really funny) and every card is very interactive. If you like the old version (from the 70s), you'll love the newest one. TECHNICAL NOTE: Our wheel was a little sticky at first. It's detachable from the board so I took it off, spun it a few times, reattached it, and it works perfectly now. The people/baby pieces are bigger than the old version but they are still small so don't use the pieces with really small children. The baby pieces are not needed as you can easily keep track of how many children you have. Enjoy!

Memory lane in a box of dated content
This is just as much fun as you remember, but it really doeasn't do anything to promote any kind of non-traditional 1950's conception of family. It rewards you for having the most children, gives the highest pay to the most respected professions (Dr., Lawyer. . . ) and in no way touches on any of the things that make a really rewarding life, like leisure time with family, happiness, fulfillment, etc. Yes, I know that the game is not supposed to be interpereted in any kind of social or philosophical manner, but if you are familiar with the game I thought you may enjoy the exercise of really thinking about this game and it's name "the Game of LIFE." I am giving this game 4 stars because it is a moderately amusing diversion, but by today's standards the game is simplistic and dated. I am not suggesting that the game needs to account for all the various forms of family that exist today, or that it should include things like divorce or death, but I have some difficulty with the idea that this game is "the Game of Life" and that it is such a pale and superficial treatment of the subject. Remember that 4 stars means that "I like it" and that this is still a positive review before the Hasbro Mafia comes to shoot me in the knees. You know what, nermind, I retract all the nonsense above. Have a blast with this pretty-good game and don't think about it too much. 4 stars stands. KNOCK, KNOCK. . . Who is it? Hasbro mafia, we'd like a word". . . I have to go. . .

I bought this as we love to play games with our kids at least every other night to build a sense of togetherness and to have fun. It's a bit more complicated than the original version and the banker should definitely be an adult as there seems to be an awful lot of nuances in this complex game. Just be sure to read the 'manual' that comes inside of it, front to back, because there are alot of things you get money for, you have to stop on stops to get your wife/kids/decide on night school and then proceed with the rest of your spaces. That part can be confusing if you land on a stop that requires you to spin because you have to remember your original spaces. I suggest having everyone remember what you spin and how many spaces you have moved before doing the Stop activities. Still, a fun game and good for decision making and having kids deal with consequences of their decisions.

Not the same as the old one....
My husband and I ordered this game for our son. We both enjoyed playing the game as children and thought our son would like it as well. We were a little surprised that it had changed some, but 20 years later, we really shouldn't have expected it to be the exact same. We actually liked the changes. They took us a few rounds to get it down, but we had a blast. Our son is asking us to play the game a lot. He has even taken it to his grandparent's house to play with them! We also got the game on sale and even with shipping, it was still cheaper than buying at our local Wal-Mart. So yes, beware, the game has changed, but just because a few people don't like change, doesn't necessarily mean the changes are terrible. The thing is, if you really want to play with the old rules (ie choose your career vs choosing blindly, spin for gifts vs using the LIFE tiles, etc.) than there is no reason you can't.

Maybe A Little Updated Since Childhood?
Love this game! My husband and I bought this game after realizing this was a favorite board game from both of our childhoods. It seems like it might be a little more complicated/involved since the version we played as kids, but is still WAY fun and would be easy for kids to play too. We played it with my mom and she said it had definitely been updated since she played it from her childhood!

IF THIS IS ALL THERE IS TO LIFE, JUST SHOOT ME NOW
I had high hopes for this game. My 7-yr-old granddaughter and I had a blast with Monopoly and we thought this would be even more fun. My first impression out of the box was that the pieces are far too small and flimsy to the point where the tokens are all but impossible to pick up. When one of us landed on a space that had all the players inserting their token in the spin wheel, we lost the tokens. They got wedged in under parts of the spin wheel and the only way to get them out would be to destroy the spin wheel, which is not an option at all. In my family, everyone goes to college. As a result, no players ever chose to go the “Career Path” option because we are all programmed toward taking the college path. So, right off the bat, everyone playing is on the same path. The game instructions are ambiguous all the way through. My first stump came a couple of spins in when a player landed on a “Payday” space. No one could agree on what salary players collect as they move through the game. Overall the game was laborious all the way through. It missed right out of the chute by telling you almost nothing about how to play after the initial setup. When you get to #3 and it says, “That’s it! That’s all you need to know, so get going. Look up the spaces as you land on them.” Well, someone landed on SOMETHING with every spin, requiring the game to stop and the banker had to read, then field questions from the players because of the ambiguous and all-too-brief instructions. Laborious, convoluted, and endlessly boring. After an hour of that we all agreed to call it quits and drag out our 50-year-old Monopoly game. Oh, so much more fun. And guess what, the pieces are sturdy, the money in denominations the children can learn from and life lessons hidden around each and every throw of the di. So folks, take my advice and don’t throw away your money. The old standards are still with us for a reason. P.S. The first time I taught my 7-yr-old granddaughter to play Monopoly, she mastered how to count “real” money after about an hour. She could figure out how to pay for a property, whether she could afford to buy one and to make change when an opponent had to pay her rent with a larger bill. By the second time we played, she had caught on to the strategy of blocking opponents from attaining a monopoly on a block of properties, and how to leverage her portfolio for higher earnings. Those are valuable life lessons that will serve her well for the remainder of her life.
