What a mess! I purchased this sink mat in May 2016 and I am throwing it away today August 9, 2016. It stinks of skunk-like plastic right out of the package and still does after numerous cleanings. Worst of all , its stains like crazy. Here it is in this picture, right out of the dishwasher. Looks disgusting. My house guest strongly suggested that I throw them away ASAP, so here they go.

I don't often post bad reviews, but when I do, you can bet it's because I'm quite mad. I spent a lot of time looking for just the right replacement for my white kitchen sink. It's not the most important purchase in the world, but it's something I use often throughout the day and something guests would see while in my kitchen. First off, this item smelled horrid when I opened the box. It was overpowering. It wasn't in plastic, just with a paper and twist ties, so it wasn't from being stuck in a package. I took the time to wash it with soap and hot water; that did not help. Within one day, it was horribly stained. Coffee, sauce of any kind (red, brown, etc) immediately stains. Nothing, including hot water, soap of any kind, will remove the stain even a little. I wanted to return it, but the process is ridiculously tedious. I will NOT pay return shipping for something so defective and poor performing, so I'm pretty disgusted that I might be stuck with this grotesque thing. I hope my review will save at least one person from having to endure this gosh awful product. It looks great, for about 20 minutes.

I've had several different sink mats over the years and have found this one to be the most durable. First of all, it doesn't stain like other colors do (ie, spaghetti sauce doesn't show). All the others will discolor, even with daily scrubbing. But for some reason this one's been OK. When I want variety and change mat colors, I now spray it down with a cleanser that has bleach and this seems to help maintain the other colors from staining. However, they all seem to fade after a while, no matter what color you use. (For instance, the clear mats will turn cloudy.) Of particular note: Any silicone-type mat is not heat tolerant and will lose their pliability. They stiffen right up! Every once in awhile I would put the sink mat in the very top-rack of the dishwasher to give it a thorough wash. (I have a third rack, so this lays flat on it). But any mat of this material can get damaged even when pouring boiling water over it, such as draining water from spaghetti or vegetables. So to prevent that you'd need to move it out of the way. Either that or just expect to be buying a replacement sooner.

When I ordered this product, both sizes, I noticed that several reviewers complained about the odor of these sink mats, which did not seem to diminish over time. I was not overly concerned, as I was replacing the same exact item, and I did not recall the old ones ever having an odor. But these new ones DO! It's been a month, and the odor is still strong when I move them to rinse sink. If I leave them alone, it is not noticeable. Probably it will dissipate over time, but it is still quite strong after a month, just so you know.

I've had these red sink mats for almost 2 years now and they are awesome!! You don't have to worry about staining with the red ones. They are not fraying, split or anything. I love them. They have gone through the dishwasher many times as well and come out fine. Would buy again for sure. The picture shows them at the time of this review, so you can see how they've held up after almost 2 yrs.

I love this sink mat. It fits great under my stainless steel dish drain adding a layer of cushion between the dish drain feet and my sink which is exactly what I intended it for. Happy little flowers also add a level of cheeriness to the kitchen.I haven't experienced any staining yet but I also don't handle and manage any food in the area where this mat is placed. The only thing it gets hit with is hot soapy water. It's only intended use in my house, as I've already stated, is to add a layer of cushion under my dish drain, so for me this is Perfect. Working As Intended.

I bought the clear mat the first time 8 years ago. Back then, there were tabs located on the bottom that held the mat above the sink floor to allow water to flow underneath. Food, coffee, etc did not get trapped underneath and the mats did not mold because of the air flow underneath. Today's version? There are tabs but I would describe them more like braille bumps. You can't see them, the only way to find one is to 'feel' for them. Clearly the manufacturer is trying to make these mats as cheaply as possible. But why bother with tiny little braille bumps that are placed 2" apart? The new versions are a major headache. Sure, they protect the surface. But I could put a piece of cardboard down and get the same results as this mat. Mold, scum and slime is what you get with this mat.The one I bought 8 years ago did not stain. That's why it lasted 8 years. This clear one is in the garbage can after a month.I would recommend going with the red one, any other color and you'll see red stains from tomatoes, carrots, etc.

Always loved the way these mats look. Cannot get out to the store to look for what I need, so took a chance on this one. I like the clear vinyl, and though it does have a slight odor to it, I am sure it will disappear. It does stain from different food items, but the "discoloration" does not bother me. What I don't like is that the rough surface catches an holds all kinks of small food particles, making it not easy to just rinse off. I also wish it had bigger nipple on the bottom so that it would lay a bit higher off the surface of the sink. Will keep it till I find something that I like better.

Fit my Belfast sink perfectly. I haven't cut bits out for the plughole as everything goes through fine. Dropped a mug in the sink and it didn't smash thanks to this.

Lovely design and super thick, no chance my new ceramic sink will get damaged now. Love the design and size

I bought two of these to protect my new sink but they ended up being more work than just being careful not to scratch the sink. Ten times a day I had to lift them up and rinse under them because stuff got stuck to it, and the first time red sauce was rinsed off a plate, they were permanently stained. If anything like coffee sat under them, the sink would stain too. I ended up throwing them out.
