CRAZY bokeh, very dreamy & ethereal. Best used in high color contrast situations, with good light. This lens will render a soft picture until about f/8, but that is why you’re buying it. For the artistic reasons not sharpness, the picture is however very sharp. There is just a soft haze to it.(UPDATE) I ended up selling this lens during the pandemic, mostly due to a lack of usage, but also because it developed fungus under the front section of the lens. First lens I've had that issue with. But I would still buy it again. its amazing when used correctly.

First off: I'm an amateur photographer with years of experience.I read so many reviews before committing to buy this lens. I do not regret it. I like the form, size, and ease of use. It takes a few moments (probably an afternoon) to get used to focusing since I'm used to leica and voigtlander lenses that come with the focusing tab.I jumped into the abyss, bought this lens, and I like the result. At f1.1, it is sharp in the middle, soft around the edges, and that's exactly what I want for portrait photos (great depth of field--see pics). When doing street photography I go up to f8 and it is sharp. I may upload samples at f8 later (but everyone reading this review is interested in f1.1 anyway. The samples of the two cats are both shot at f1.1, on a leica M9, and they are not enhanced or edited.So, there. I hope this helps. And have fun shooting with this lens.

I am new to the Leica system and this is my first lens i am using with my M9. I am a Nikon shooter (D850, D500 and Df). The first thing about this lens is that it does not work right off the bat. This needs to be calibrated for proper shooting. Out of the box, i was getting a lot of back focusing. The lens does includes instructions and the tool to fix this. Had to do it a few times before the camera started nailing focus. This may not be the sharpest lens wide open but it definitely will give you some nice creamy bokeh. A lot of creative possibilities.The build quality is great, nice heft and very solidly built. Well balanced on my M9.In short; Get it, calibrate it and enjoy. For the price this is a solid buy.

1) Received was NOT a new but an open-boxed one that missed a lens pouch. I did not have time to test this lens until last month when Leica sent back my M9 after a recall service.2) The lens shows poor optical quality. It make soft images in almost all stops and produces terrible chromatic aberration, though the manufacture claims the lens produces "lowest chromatic aberration". I do not know if the seller sent me a returned "bad apple" or the issues are of a systematic quality issue.3) In short, a lens in such a poor optical quality is essentially unusable. I will request a return or exchange.

love the results of this lens, it was hard for me to focus (maybe because I'm new to rangefinder system)overall, it is an amazing lens

Lens is ok

This is not a lens for a representational view of the world. It is a mysterious imperfect tool for expressing your subconscious mind. Use it a f2-2.8 for reasonably sharp images, 4 and above it looks almost like a normal lens, and wider than f2 it is a real freak show. Well built and insanely good value. Like Irakly said, adjust it before you use it and you will not be disappointed.

I respectfully disagree with the previous review. My lens, in terms of optical quality, is on par with Noctilux 1/50, which I own and have extensively tested both lenses against each other with an M10 body. Chromatic aberrations are MUCH LESS than on Noctilux. The glow is more pronounced, looks more like Leica Summilux 1.4/35 Pre-ASPH. The glow is largely gone by f/2.8.This lens requires manual adjustment, and tools are provided. Out of the box it misses focus, as the rangefinder coupler is out of alignment. It took me literally 5 minutes to adjust it perfectly
