Fresh breath, clean mouth
RetarDEX certainly made my teeth and mouth feel fresh and clean, and it didn't hurt as much as Listerine which I find a tad too powerful. However for only 250ml for just under a fiver it's a little too expensive for me which is why it's only three stars. I image I'd have to try it for a good month before deciding whether or not to keep buying it.

Really very good
I have tried mouthwashes before, to try and cut down on tartar which I seem to collect up to a small extent and to keep a sensitive tooth I have in check. The last mouthwash was prescribed by the dentist but it ended up staining my teeth so the dentist then had to clean them for me, so a bit of a disaster. This mouthwash has no taste (unless you add the mint flavouring) which I like as mint can be a bit strong sometimes. Having rinsed with Retardex I have found that flavours from food that tend to hang around, are removed, my teeth look and feel much fresher and it does help keep the tartar at bay, which is great. This mouthwash states that it helps eradicate bad breath, although I have been fortunate not to suffer from that, unless I have been out for a curry or eaten garlic, when this mouthwash resolves that problem, so does help with breath freshness issues too. Finally I have not noticed any staining on my teeth, so it scores 5 stars from me.

Gentle but disappointing
Retardex Mouth Wash is simple to use. Without adding the peppermint sachet it does just feel like rinsing your mouth with water although the liquid feels slightly thicker than water. However I really didn't feel it made a huge difference to my breath without having that minty fresh taste. If you don't like products like Listerine for the strong taste then this one I would recommend because you can put as much of the powder in as you like so it doesn't have to be so strong and it is nicer than Corsodyl. If you have sensitive teeth or gums then the only problem you will have is keeping the liquid at room temperature so you're not bothered by it being too cold. I wasn't keen on the lid for measuring the liquid because you have to fill it on the outer edge which may not be easy for everyone. I also felt I was using a lot more than I would have done with any other product so it didn't seem to last very long with it being a 250ml bottle. I also didn't feel it made any difference to the whiteness of my teeth.I did like it for the fact it didn't dry my mouth out and again, for the fact it isn't as strong as Corsodyl or Listerine but I wouldn't be buying it as I don't feel it lived up to its features.

5*****
I take medication that leaves me with a dry mouth, so use this before I go out to help keep the saliva flowing. It certainly seems to help. I was hesitant about adding the sachet of flavouring, as I'm not keen on strong minty mouthwashes, so I added it very gradually, and eventually added the whole sachet. I wouldn't say it's minty at all, but it does improve the flavour of the rinse. I also use the Retardex Oral Spray, which is a great product.

This works
I bought this for my husband and it works very well, continuing to work long after the bottle is empty.

Didn't work for me
I found the claims for this mouthwash didn't hold water (excuse the pun) when I tried it. It claims to neutralise volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs), just the kind of thing which gives me bad breath after eating garlic or onions.Yesterday I made a casserole and used garlic to flavour it. I used the mouthwash as instructed before going to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night with garlic breath as usual. That's a big fail on the claims made in my view.As well as not working, the product is over packaged - it comes in a cardboard box wrapped in plastic. I also had problems measuring out the liquid as instructed - you have to pour it between the outer and inner parts of the lid, which is quite a narrow space. Why not just have a normal cap with a measuring line on the lid like other manufacturers of this kind of thing manage to do?It's also relatively expensive compared with similar products on the market. One to avoid in my view.Having given this product a low rating, I'm fully expecting lots of negative votes. However, I'm prepared to stand by what I've said and speak as I find.

Disappointing...
I've used this in the distant past, and found it very effective for clearing up that stale breath we sometimes get - not rotten-teeth-bad-breath, not too-much-marmite-or-garlic-bad-breath, just a stale mouth that you just know doesn't do a lot for your breath. My other half has a tendency to this, and in the past this mouthwash has worked really well. This rinse surprised me in tasting not half as bad as I remembered. True, there's no zingy, zappy blast of mint or menthol and alcohol that has your mouth tingling with (transitory) freshness, but it is palatable in a bland, neutral sort of way, especially if you add the mint concentrate from the sachet that comes in the box. However, it really hasn't done a thing for the other half's breath, which is a shame, given it's past record.I wonder if they got negative feedback about the taste, which really did used to be quite ugh, and in making it more palatable, they've somehow reduced its efficacy?

Neutral mouth rinse for you, not for me.
Without the minty sachet this rinse `tastes' like slightly salted, slightly viscous water. Certainly it's not like some mouth washes that are so strong they almost take your head off. So it's been the mint additives all this time that make me feel like I've cleaned my mouth thoroughly? Wow.Other plus? There's no bad reaction to orange juice (science comes through finally!).Negatives: Not BDA approved. Expensive, the box implies you're getting more for your money. Fiddly to get correct dosage (I ended up swigging from the bottle like usual) and then there's the name.I won't be getting any more of this so I cannot say if the teeth strengthening & whitening claims are valid.
