People will love their favorite hero in Japan's feudal era as a ninja

Batman Ninja is Batman’s second Japanese anime and its’s about Batman in feudal Japan after Gorilla Grodd builds a time machine and accidentally sends the Bat Family and Batman’s rouge to Medieval Japan. Batman must defeat his Rouge’s gallery which have become Japanese feudal lords and get back to Gotham.The Bad:The biggest question is does this Japanese take of the Batman work? The answer is kind of? The biggest flaw of the movie right of the bat is the choice of Animation. Going with CGI instead of hand drawn. This might be a deal breaker to some as the CGI in scenes can be so wonky and the movement have stuttering low framerate especially in the beginning of the film. To add insult to injury there was a scene drawn at the end credits with Catwoman and the Anime would have been so much better if it was drawn. As this was primarily a Japanese production the dialogue also suffers as this was originally in Japanese, some of the translations can’t be translated from Japanese to English. This is an easy fix as the movie sports the original Japanese audio subbed.The Good:Despite initial setbacks, I enjoyed the film. First and foremost, animation aside the designs of Batman, Catwoman, all the Robins, and the villains where great. It was really fitting and looked good, as a fan of both Batman and Japanese history. This weird mixture ends up working for the most part, it does get to be a bit much when they have the Japanese castles transforming into mechs. Other than that, the Batman being a Ninja works in the most part that Batman is a modern-day ninja. The plot was good too it showed Batman had to adapt to his new Japanese setting and forgo his reliance on his technology, although Gorilla Grodd being in the story is a stretch as he is not a Batman man villain. However, you do have heavy hitters such as Penguin, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Bane, Harley Quinn, and of course The Joker. All sporting the Ancient Japanese aesthetics and Anime inspired designs. The best scene in the movie was towards the end with the final battle as mentioned before there are mechs and the final battle was like watching the power rangers with everyone doing a mech transformation. This is when the CGI animation started to clean up from the wonkiness of the beginning the movement was more fluid and not stuttering as a result the final battle was beautiful done.Conclusion:At the end Batman Ninja will be a mixed bag to people. Some will be put off by the CGI others by the concept of Batman in Feudal Japan. I enjoyed Batman Ninja for what it was it could have been better if the CGI was replaced by drawings like they did in the first Batman Anime Gotham Knights, but it was still a decent DC Animated movie. No where near my favorites, but still far better than most recent animated films. If you can get used to the CGI and Japanese influences, then I can recommend Batman Ninja. If you can’t I would skip it and wait for the next Batman animated film or go back and watch older classics.

Let me start this by saying I'm neither a fan of anime or of the recent DC Batman films both animated or otherwise. I've read every issue of Batman from #1 - #400 and am a life long fan of the character. In live action I thought the original 1943 serial was very good, so was the Adam West film and parts of Christopher Nolan's trilogy were pretty good (although the Batman voice is ridiculous and the rubber suit just looks silly).I've seen a handful of Batman Animated films-- the best one of those was probably WORLD'S FINEST done by Bruce TImm and company. The recent Gotham By Gaslight was mediocre both in the animation and the storyline which was was based on a really good graphic novel. I tell you all of this so you know going in where I stand on Batman as he's been portrayed on film.I'm not a fan of anime either-- although I love the work of Miyazaki.This film blew me away. It's not just the best Batman Feature Cartoon I've seen in a long time, it might be the best Batman movie of all time. The animation is stunning and beautifully fluid. So much better than American animation. I got this despite the poor reviews here on Amazon because things like Gotham By Gaslight and Son of Batman got great reviews and I found both mediocre at best.I don't know if the complaints are based on the dubbed version, but I didn't watch that. I would never watch a dubbed film anymore than I'd watch a pan and scan film-- I watched it in the original Japanese with subtitles and it was wild. Amazing character designs, incredible fight scenes, and a STORY that actually was well thought out and didn't just assume the audience was ignorant (see Gotham by Gaslight and if you don't know who the killer is 10 minutes in you weren't paying attention).The Joker and Batman's rogues gallery are suitably creepy and given the feudal era Japan treatment. Yup, there are giant robots too-- because this is Batman as a Japanese character and that pop culture is very much giant robot and kaiju influenced.This was fast paced, beautifully animated, well acted, nicely written and absolutely entertaining all the way through. I am so glad to finally have a Batman film that's worthy of the character.Brilliant work.
