Review: Mieux que bien RAS Review: I only just received this artists edition and had to write the review. This is my third IDW artist’s edition, and I am already excited while only flipping through the book. The team of Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin was the gold standard of comics excellence during the late 1970s through to the 1980s. As an amateur comic artist inspired by the artists of the day, I love seeing the original size pencil and ink artwork. Even the paste-up corrections are fun to explore. I’ll really be enjoying this read.

I gave my opinion of the X-Men run. It simply hasn't been better than the run of Chris Claremont and John Byrne (Vol 1, 108-143). The most significant storylines of their run have been adapted multiple times in live-action and animation but the adaptations still pale in scope (reimagined or reduced for Hollywood budgets) and maturity (sad to say but most book to screen adaptations are very dumbed down). This is a no-brainer purchase for people who appreciate unfinished, rougher pencil or inked art (without coloring!), Byrne fans (which there are still legions of us out there), X-Men fans -- particularly of the better, pre-1990s eras --, and anyone who appreciates artwork reproduced closer to the original submission art that was sent to be recopied and colored. The original penciler (Byrne) got the pages back but has long since sold the original artwork to dealers and fans. Unless you WANT to pay tens of thousands of dollars -- if not $100,000+ for the artwork of a SINGLE, COMPLETE ISSUE (21-23 pages average) of the more significant issues of the Byrne run --, this is the closest most of us will get to owning art from the original Byrne run on X-Men. I don't care for much from IDW but they generally do these artist editions well. This is one artist edition I WANTED to own!
